Who wants to YouTube their game night??

Postby Ragnar IronFist » June 13th, 2014, 12:55 pm

So I think it's time for some of you more veteran and regular HQ players... particularly those who play with a regular group... to bust out with the YouTubes.
I would totally find it helpful. I can read the instructions and peruse the forums endlessly. But nothing teaches me quite like a video.

You see, I'm a bit of a thickie. Still getting my head around AHQ. Which is why I'll never try to actually tackle GMing a full-on RPG.

I have played a handful of times with my kid, and we both had fun. But it did feel, now and then, that it was getting a little monotonous with the open door.. kill monster... repeat. Don't get me wrong, I love it. But I also know there's tons of little rule tweaks on this forum. House rules, incorporating AHQ or even WHQ rules, Lots of stuff about advancing between adventures, Story-telling techniques, etc. I bet some of you get more into the Role-playing, and vivid description/story-telling aspect.

YouTube seemed sorely lacking in the HQ/AHQ info. I normally use it to learn a new board game. Rodney Smith is a personal hero. I'd love a good how-to with the HQ/AHQ/WQ world. It doesn't even have to be a 'rules' how-to.. but just a ... better window.. into how some of you put on a good game. How it flows, how you tackle travel/advancement, modified rules etc. So if you're not too camera shy, I just wanna throw it out there... I'd love you to plop a camera down and roll for a game. If you're feeling fancy, go into your house rules for an actual 'instructional', do some editing, etc. If you're not.. then just let it roll for a game and allow a noob like me.. who uses YouTube to learn just about everything... a look into how it flows with your group, and the perhaps more subtle things y'all do to keep it fresh.

Just a suggestion. :D

P.S... audio is often more important than video. Seeing a wideshot of a group around the table and hearing "mmffrppfnnngg grrmmmlll", "gdrrnnfffnnn drxylll plnnngg" doesn't help much.(Lots of YouTubes out there like that lol :?: ) So if somebody takes me up on my suggestion, at least make sure voices are audible.

You just might be in luck, my friend.

I am currently running through a minimally houseruled campaign of HeroQuest with my group. We play online. We will hopefully finish the last quest by the end of the month, if we aren't terribly delayed. But after that, we will take a couple week break or maybe play something else in the meantime, and when we get back I was going to start running a campaign of HeroQuest Prime. HQP is my heavily modified overhaul and supplement of the original Game System.

And so you are aware, I get a number of people that tell me they would like to join my game but they can't either because they can't play on the say I run it (Tuesday) or some other reason. And they keep saying it would be nice to be able to enjoy it some other way. So because of all that, I will be recording our sessions for the next campaign through Hangouts on Air which will go up on YouTube for posterity, so other people can enjoy it and/or mock us. :)

I'll be making an announcement on the forum when I have more details and we're getting ready to go. But as of right now, it's in no shape to get a game going. I don't have the cards done completely and haven't mapped out the quest pack.
War is not the answer...unless the question is, 'What is not the answer?'

No wonder. The authorities would start to hunt her down, because they wanna do all kinds of tests on the very rare Orc female.

You could read the play-by-post section to see the game in action.

If you want rules to break up the standard pattern the simplest one would be for the DM to roll a combat dice every turn and if a black skull is rolled a wandering monster/s get activated but start from a square out of sight.

Sjeng has made some nice random event cards. Maybe one could be drawn if the DM rolls a white shield.

One of my house rules is that monsters can open doors but things in a room that a hero didn't open are only placed on the board once a hero has direct line of sight to it. Once one monster in the room is seen it activates all the monsters in that room.

Twitch? I don't know much about it, but it would be fun to be able to comment the game as it is being played.
