Is it possible to disagree to agree to disagree?

I'm not, but was curious if I can. ;)

As an American, I didn't even know about the European versions and expansions until at least a decade after I thought I had completed my HeroQuest collection. :o  then along came the Internet and online shopping to fix that.
I grew up with Zargon. I play the US rules and read Zargon. However, the expansion Wizards of Morcar is official, hard to argue with that, besides Wizards of Zargon just sounds silly to me. I think the name Morcar sounds better and has real world etymology and history, Zargon sounds more like a cliched tv show villian name. I use it as a pseudonym used by Morcar to hide his true identity.

It sounds ridiculous, really sounds like a joke name. The weird thing is that the US version came after so why change it? Too similar to Mentor maybe.

Zargon does sound an awful lot like someone Flash Gordon would have to fight.

Zargon reminds me of the ridiculous film Zardoz.

That's a real Hungarian name. Real names are always awkward in Fantasy settings, whatever language or culture they might be from.
A Song of Ice and Fire is a niotable exception. G.R.R. Martin uses the real English language to come up with these awesome cohesive and consistent name-linguistics
that retains thw Fantasy aspect in a very unique way.
It's really hard to get this stuff right nowadays. Tolkien came up with his own system of linguistics, too. Again, cohesive and consistent and thus believable.
Almost no writer or Fantasy setting has come up with anything similar, instead almost exclusivel opting for weird generic words that have very no credibility to them, especially when put next to each other, for instance when you look at neighboring cities in RPG maps.
Ranting again.

Was a "Dude Where's My Car?" Reference. Zargon makes me think of Zoltan. I grew up with Zargon though so forever it will be Zargon.

Morcar was a British earl. Hard to make a name that never existed.

In that case it's a phonological appropriation.
and it's old and unused now.

I imagine that's probably why. Plus with that evil 'Z' in there, it sounds more sinister to American kids. Seems like it's right out of a bad Saturday morning cartoon.

But I was that American kid so it'll always be Zargon to me. I didn't even know there were different versions until I discovered this site earlier this year.
