Phoenix conversions eu-us

Postby Striker » August 26th, 2016, 7:22 am

Hi,

After recently developing a nostalgic want for HQ I have since gone a bit postal and own all expansions except for the frozen horror. After having read about the us/eu game systems I decided to get the us editions of all expansions where available, my base game is eu.

My question is, has anyone tried the phoenix eu-us conversions for ATOH or Morcar?

I have seen lots of discussions on ogre body points but no one seems to have played any of the suggestions. Given that I am about to gather a group of heroes to play through this epic saga (hopefully with frozen horror by then) I would like some input so I dont end up fiddling rules mid campaign.

Thanks
Jon

I haven't played ATOH yet myself, I am hoping one day we get that far in playing the game as well. Sorry can't help there. I do know if your looking for rules for the us game Phoenix did a remaster of the rule book that I call "The Code". I believe I found it on Phoenix's website, it should have everything your looking for so you don't botch the rules mid campaign, have fun.

His suggestions for the Ogre's are quite useable. I didn't test his version yet, but calculated the models. They do what you would expect them to do.

I once tested the 10 BP Ogre of the Elf Quest Pack. That was fun. It was a two room quest. :D

Thanks I'll check out the revisited Horde, I'm keen to play through the official quests in order without changing too much except for the melding of the eu only expansions.

I definitely want it to be a challenge and so far I have been directed to allow the heroes to keep their artifacts along the way. ATOH comes third in order so by then I imagine they'll be fairly well stacked and as for morcar that will be the fourth and even more powerful including the equipment along the way. Using the 10bp ogres has been a point of discussion erring on the side of insane, but I think with all the equipment they may have will it be that hard?

Using a single 10 BP Ogre is acceptable. Multiples of them is not really fair. :D

In the ATOH quest pack it is stated that the heroes shall have potions of healings before starting. Don't ignore that otherwise you can sell the heroes as sausage next time you do barbecue. :2cents:

Even if everyone has a Battle Axe, killing a single 10 BP Ogre will take roughly two full rounds of fighting. Max-equipment Heroes can take on a couple per Quest, but probably not more than that.

Also, don't forget about the Ogre Lord - the biggest, meanest and nastiest Ogre in the whole Horde. If any other Ogres have 10 BPs, the Lord should as well - on top of improved combat stats!

Thanks again, well I play devil's advocate stirring the discussion but im very inexperienced playing it, o ly a couple on the base game with playing currently on hiatus while I paint them all up ready. It seems the phoenix revision is a solid starter so I'll go with that. I perhaps wouldn't have used 10bp for all of them maybe just the lord and downgraded the others from there, but it seems I have my answer. Any ideas on the phoenix morcar us revision?

Hiya Striker, welcome to the Forums by the way.

As the folks around here know, I have not had a full and functional HQ set in years (Long sad story), so I have yet to test any of the Phoenix stuff. However, the NA conversions of the EU content was one of the reasons I ultimately joined the forums myself, after many years of snagging bits and pieces of the custom goodies offered on the main site. Always with the "Intent" of rebuilding my game and playing again of course.

Regardless, point being, now that someone (you) is planning to dig in on those conversions, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts once you and your group have some quality time with them.

And again, welcome to the Inn.

I recently finished playing AtOH using US rules and with what I think are Phoenix' suggestions; Ogres having 3, 4 or 5 BP (3 for Ogre Warrior; 5 for Ogre Lord).

All four Heroes were maxed out before beginning; having played through the base game, KK and RotWL. They all survived, but there were quite a few very close calls through the game. At the end of the quest pack, all of the Healing Potions you get at the beginning were gone, and the potions found during the game as well.

At some point we'll continue with Wizards of Morcar using the US conversions, but first a quest pack or two of the brilliant stuff found here on the forum.
