Paint Remover

Tips and tricks for painting miniatures and anything else.

Paint Remover

Postby Helegak3 » June 2nd, 2016, 11:20 pm

Hello All,
I brought my miniatures from Hero Quest (US main system), and I have gotten a lot better at painting, so it's time to repaint them. However, I need to remove the paint. I have seen lots of things online about how to do this, and I am also told that nail polish remover will damage the figurines. However, I am in South Korea, so I need something that I can get here. I know you can import anything from Amazon.com, but even if the price is cheap, shipping costs are outrageous. Any ideas?

Soak them in Simple Green for 2 days. Then scrub them with an old toothbrush under a slow stream of water.
Most of the paint should come off easy enough. Then there will be some left on some miniatures. Soak them again in clean Simple Green for a few more days and scrub them again.

That gets off most mini paint I have encountered without harming the mini's.

If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Apparently the active chemical is either benzalconum chloride or chlorhexadine. I can't spell those names...

Edit: Now updated to "chloroxylenol". APparently that's the chemical that actually strips teh paint.
