Player vs Player

Postby Asriel » March 16th, 2016, 5:50 am

So, it's clear to me now that pvp is only allowed in the European rule set and not in the N/A one. My problem is this. I am playing the Morcar part and my party, is divided upon this rule. The two of them are kinda sneaky and always willing to turn to the dark side and the other two are what in DnD would called "awfully good" and all they want is proper teamplay to finish the missions. An average mission ends up with only one of the Heroes alive, since most of the time they kill one another for gold and armor, or they argue about something and split up the party ending up killed by the evil hordes. As you can see, my problem is big as they never progress through the missions, they always start over and the game goes nowhere. I told them that we should follow the N/A rules excluding the pvp rule, but as you can imagine half the party argued strongly and denied the change, so I HAVE to think of something. What I came up with a friend is the evil point system and this is where I want your help (aside from the first part where any other advice would be truly helpful)

So, its fairly simple. When a player attacks another player, he receives an Evil Point. When he reaches four, he is seized by the evil forces and for one round, Morcar can control his character. Not only that, but since he's now evil, as Morcar speaks through his minions and controls them, for the next two attacks by monsters he is not able to defend at all, as Morcar controls his mind and lets him get hurt. That's it. My purpose for this is that if a player keeps on harassing the others or kills them (when a player kills another player he immediately receives 4 Evil Points), a) Morcar gets him under his control and most probably wipes out the rest of the party (imagine controlling the wizard and casting Jini on another player) and b) he is get screwed as he gets free 2 monster attacks and most likely gets killed.
So, what I'm saying is that if he screws the party for 4 times (or 1 kill) he screws up the whole game, BUT (since its a bit absolute and they are gonna react heavily about not being able to do anything anymore) the sum of 4 points let them play with fire and have some fun.

What do you guys think of that?

Crazy group :D

You can use the EWP Deck, too. Killing each other needs time. You get cards. Then you use stuff like Alert to open doors maybe.
You could even make some cards that are targeted on the player with the most evil points. That way you'll screw him, but not immediately 100%.

Yeah, they are crazy! We are playing regularly for months now with fixed characters and players and they got zero advancement because of that. I thought of forcing them to accept that the rule is out for good, but I'm afraid they will lose interest as the rule itself brings mystery and intrigue in the game and they love that.

No if that's what makes them addicted to the game, let them do it for good why not.

Maybe you advertise for having a save in a bank and a testament so that their next character gets some of their belongings. Well, first step is that more than one of them survives.

Do they pair up when they fight each other? Maybe you could alter the quests so that two pairs start from different places and it's a competition to see which pair can complete the mission.

They might be interested in trying something like this. viewtopic.php?f=162&t=2311 Nobody want to p-b-p it with me. :( Doing something like that every now and then might satisfy their blood lust so that they work together in conventional quests.

They don't always pair up, they discuss it first who to kill or what to do (out in the open in front of everybody), more likely when there is a big gold prize found, but most of the time they act on their own, waiting for the party to split and the victim to be cornered by monsters or in a bad position. They are very treacherous these guys :D. I like the death match! I will consider introducing it to them!
A certain member of the party for example, loves to open 3-4 doors at the same time so the map floods with monsters and then uses mist to get away or just simply runs and lets the other guys fight with them and awaits for someone to die to get his equipment/gold. How can you say no to such a strategy as a Morcar? :D :D

Edit: I've also thought of a "Penalty Deck" where if someone attacks/kills another hero or does something that the majority of the party believes as bad, he draws a penalty card, where he loses bp, gold, equipment etc.

What would be the in-game reason for that to happen though?

You could change the heroes names to fit more with their style of play, marauder, chaos dwarf, dark elf, sorcerer.

You could also penalise them when they attack or cast offensive spells at each other by giving them an evil point and removing an evil point if they complete a quest or other specific in quest objectives. When they reach a certian amount of evil points their name changes to the one above and buying anything costs more, maybe 10% more for every five evil points or something.

Player vs player... I've not seen it in HQ but in our last game of Zombiced BP, after I took a bolt in my new armour, I fired of a shot at the other player. It happened a few times, once I started it. "don't cast that spell in this zone" "don't fire that near me, I'm warning you. Even if I make a save you're getting a bash" The stronger character in effect gets to control the game.

As long as the group enjoy it, I'd keep it, let them do it. Every HQ game I've played has always been 100% cooperative. I'd like to see a few fight break out for 1 or 2 rounds myself. The group needs an arrogant player who won't listen.

If they are robbing each others Gold previously acquired, perhaps allow the players to of stashed their gold prequest. Also if they arn't progressing and want to, surely they'll learn at some point they'll need cooperation, at some level.

so you are upset the players are doing things counter to what you want them to do...

suck it up and play on, if you make some rules up over this, you will lose your game group
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

However, if the EWP isnt having any fun, then what's the point? Everyone should be having fun with the game. The same sort of thing happened with two friends i played with. One player would always wander off and usually both his characters would die, making it harder for the more practical player. After a few quests an fight broke out over which way to go and who the leader was. Since then, there were frequent battles between the heroes usually until one hero would die.

I eventually had to create some NPCs that would show up occasionally, because back then my quests where overly difficult; so in emergency situations i would send help their way, pretty much to help the player that was actually trying to play the game but couldnt cuz the other player kept goofing around and doing stupid things on purpose. Sure a lot of these things were pretty funny but i still didnt want everyone to die every quest.
