It finally all came together
...
My custom HQ cards arrived
Two friends agreed to try out this old game (they're each controlling to heroes)
They don't mind using my tweaked rules, cards, and quest order
...
Two people playing my tweaked version of the game as I play Zargon
I'm so happy about this, and I just wanted to say it somewhere where people might understand why this is so cool for me
I don't even really remember playing HeroQuest the first time anymore; it was so long ago and I was so young
And it totally made me the geek that I am today, and it was my first step on my career path even
I'm just so damned stoked
...
I just got back from the play session. They loved the game and wanna play again tomorrow or the next day (work permitting)
Win

Yea man, HQ has that kind of effect on people. Its rules are simple enough that it lets you RPG without needing to find hard core RPGers, so it has a fairly good record at being able to attract players. Its the board game that isnt a board game but plays like a board game. It was my gateway into nerdhood as well, as it ended up leading me into D&D and others, but i still go back to it all the time.

I'm a game designer. Currently a Technical Designer at Studio Wildcard (we make ARK: Survival Evolved)

If you guys want custom cards that are really well done, and don't mind doing the work involved with prepping them, you can get amazing results from DriveThruCards. I got mine printed there and they're seriously professional quality.

HeroQuest becomes this itch that you just have to scratch at and was for me one of the reasons I got in to RPG's some 20+ years ago, great to see others are still loving this game even after all this time!
