I would totally paint naked male models.
I would totally play a female hero.
It's all about bigotry and brainwashing "culture". There's no such thing as an inappropriate figure, there's only inappropriate people.

Dyreme's concerns are valid and the discussion is healthy.
However I don't find the miniatures problematic:

* They are relatively tasteful. Sure they are naked, but not in an overly vulgar way. They are sexy but not sexual if that makes any sense.
* They are miniatures not people; they are essentially pieces of art. I think this distinction makes a huge difference.
* Nakedness is part of the fantasy art culture - That's not an excuse, but it shouldn't come as a surprise.

:2cents:

Actually I kinda hate it when a perfectly good female warrior is ruined by randomly having her bazookas hanging out.
I can't really use that for anything in HeroQuest. Too poorly armored to be a hero - Too well armored to be rescued....

This I agree with.

cynthialee wrote:They assume that nakid male models won't sell.
They are a business. And they estimate that it's not worth it to make such miniatures. They might go under. You can't blame them for double standard. It's unfair.

When I go out to buy some clothing, I always come across ugly shirts with labels and prints, and I just want a plain single coloured shirt. They don't make them as much anymore. Should I be complaining about double standard in that? The fashion has shifted away from my taste and that's how things are, I can only complain for the stupidity of the general public that likes them, not the companies that make them.

I hate things on the TV. EVERY FREAKING SHOW! It's a double standard from my point of view. TV entertains stupid people but not intelligent people like me. No one's looking out for me. I don't really believe that, but someone could say that.

Anyway, to make my previous point even clearer, let me give out some examples.
When male teacher is having sex with a female student, society goes mental. When a female teacher is having sex with a male student, society doesn't feel bad for the kid. Is that a double standard? No, that's reality. Reality of the nature of people and the nature of the sexuality in our society.

A male breast can be seen in public, but female is forbidden. Again, not a double standard. That's the way it is. Don't complain about the ways of the world and label it sexism.

You can't have double standard of that sort. Male and female are different, their bodies are different, their sexuality is different and can't be compared in that context.

Men and women are (should be) equal but they are not the same. They have distinct differences and ignoring them doesn't make you not sexist, it makes you blind.

Finally, as far as miniatures are concerned, the ones in the site that Dyreme mentioned, are not cool for heroquest. I don't want to say anything bad for the creators since they roam about here, but those nude females should be under another category, not fantasy. I don't know what, but not there.

I just have Zealot on one half of the screen and YeOldeInn on the other.

I would found a new category, "Pinups". That would fit.

Hellenica --> not useable. She could be in the new pinups category for example.
Lunah --> Well, she's clothed. Not too much, but that's quite fantasy style. I like that she's presented in a diorama. If you get the parts for the diorama as well, she could be in "fantasy". If not, she's more in "Pinup".
The Mermaid --> She looks exactly like any random mermaid from any random fairy tale. I would call it inappropriate if she wears something else, in fact.
The Hunter --> She's clothed. She looks inappropriate only because of the painting. You paint the clothing decently, and she looks more or less normal.
Octavia --> only a little bit better than Hellenica. I would show her in a pinup category and in fantasy, to be honest.
Nerah - Whatever she is. In Purple she looks like a deamonette, but in real-color? I would put her in the pinup category again.
Executioness --> Pinup category, definitively. Or an exchangeable Breast Part to make her uesable.
Deh'Ly lah --> again, she's quite fantasy style. With this clothing it is up to the painter to give her a skintone stomach or a differently colored stomach, showing that she wears something tightly fitting.

If there's any categorizing to do, it would be "Fantasy" and "Historical". These are the styles, but implementing this is useless because all of the figures are clearly in a wide area of "Fantasy". People in fantasy worlds might be naked all the time because of different cultures, different belief systems, different climates.

By the way, all of these models are for painters, not for gamers, so even the discussion about whether they fit HeroQuest is beside the point.
Zealot Miniatures cater to those who want to or have widened their hobby horizons.
As I understand, the qualms are about the page linked to from here. I'd suggest the direct link takes you to the page where the dungeon scenery is presented and the qualms are dealt with.

Additionally, a sub-category for "Not Safe For Work" would make sense for the blatantly overt nipples. Having such a category would even make for some endorsement for ZM. So, no harm done for anyone.
Let's cater to the (bigoted) masses here: nipples are not appropriate because when you look at them you either wanna fumble them or you think "What a whore to show her nipples" because you think she wants you to want to fumble them and are offended because of that, which is basically bigotry because nature tends to make you want the first, because these figures presented there are objectively beautiful. That's where the bigotry comes in: the brainwashed mind shutting down the intuitive reception of the beauty all around us.

Is a Beastman with exposed nipples inappropriate?
A woman with hooves and a pig's head, nipples showing?
A beast woman as above, but with natural hair hanging over her supposed vagina from the bellybutton down?
A naked fat woman?
A man with a huge cock hanging?
A man with a tiny cock hanging?
As a painter, I can tell you I wanna paint all of those if I have talent, money, and time on my hands.

Re: Inappropriate Figures

Ill start by trying to take a step back, in the sense the minis in question are not produced by us - we are the UK reseller for Kabuki Miniatures (http://www.kabukimodels.com/) who are a friendly bunch of Italians who mainly produce pinup miniatures. (Each product mentions the brand in the product description on the right :) )

Personally i dont have a problem with retailing them. "Fantasy" makes sexist stereotypes of both genders in my opinion. But there lies the morale debate ;)

From a business standpoint; Thanks to Dyreme for bringing this up, the Kabuki pinup range should be separate from the general fantasy minis, so its clear what's there when clicking.

This was on the cards for us, to do a new store layout.
We have redone the website, but the webstore is still old and needing updating. We will be re organizing the store into more sensible categories by manufacturer soon when time permits, and including the new TC dungeon scenery.
But for now, i have shuffled the Kabuki pinup range into its own category to organize things better for the time being :)

Tasoe you are just wrong. Read up on sexist marketing and how it feeds into a cycle that repeats.
You are wrong.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.
