It is as obvious and present as the nose on your face.

The person playing the EWP is also the person who plays "Mentor" during the quest phase.
It is true in this realm so it must be true in the other realm.

Also it just makes for a perfect twisted ending.

I think Loretome sends Mages that read it into a madness. For Mentor Zargon Morcar (his full 'Christian Name by the way) it was a shattered personality.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Zargon and Morcar being one in the same would be a cool idea for a really long quest, So in actuality all the villains the Heroes have been dispatching knew Zargon/ Morcar secret.

Not necessarily.
When he is in the guise of one or the other the look is totally different due to disguise spells; simple glamour magic any wizard of repute should be able to master.

This is a cool idea to explore. However, if I'm not mistaken, doesn't a piece of lore in explicitly describe Morcar/Zargon as Mentor's apprentice from hundreds of years ago? The relevant piece of text reads:
HeroQuest Quest Book wrote:Many centuries ago, Zargon was my apprentice. He worked hard and learned quickly. But impatience devoured him, and he wanted to learn more powerful magic. I told him of the dangers, and that he should be patient, for in time he would become a great wizard. But Zargon would not wait: each night he broke into my study and read my spell books. The secrets that where held within them where great indeed. Once he had learned these secrets, Zargon fled.

How would you explain that passage if Mentor and the Evil Wizard are the same person?

Glamour makes a real thing look more wondrous or mundane, illusions create the appearance of a thing.

Flesh is very peculiar about setting Beernut in italics as if he wanted to rub our noses in.

Actually, I put every player's name in italics - even the DM, even me, even the DM's wife who never plays with us - only makes damn delicious desserts!
So no, I get to enjoy the games that Beernut creates for us. I only DM the FASA version of movie era Star Trek; something I have done since I was a teen in the 80's and so am comfortable with.

When I have DM'd HQ without Beernut there, I have allowed players to tell me what their characters attempt - and let rolls of the dice tell us if it's been successful or not.

But I myself also like the idea of Zarquon and Morecars being the same guy.
