People prefer the game with superior artwork, furniture and actual minis? :o

HeroQuest has outstanding presentation, especially for it's time. HeroCults looks like *Alpha-Sierra-Sierra*
Adding to that, judging from the content and the description in the free mag, HC seems way more shallow than HQ.
So I dunno... What's your point?

Nice little article but I ended up skimming through most of it out of disinterest. Although it's always nice to read and hear positive things about Hero Quest, I need more than just, "It was such a great game, remember when...?" to keep me interested for longer than a few minutes.
Unless you specify your version I'm going by the US rules.

Yeah, some of it is a rehash, but the interview with Les Edwards was interesting as was the modern gamer impressions after a HeroQuest session. There was also a bit of history I wasn't aware of. It's too bad they didn't get the okay to publish an interview with Stephen Baker.

I just want to know "WHY" he wasn't allowed to talk about a game that his company has given up on. It makes no sense. But that may just be me. :D

I suspect the good people of Games Workshop considered HeroQuest to be leading too much into RPG areas, i.e. towards competitors, and too little into tabletop/miniature collecting.
Nowadays, they re-publish Space Hulk (and they will again, mind you!) just because the sprues are laying around and for no other reason that it's fast earned money. Same goes for earlier tries. Advanced HeroQuest and Warhammer Quest are also cases in point. But they've seen the error of their ways, catering to potential roleplayers instead of wargamers and collectors. Epic and Warmaster are dead, Mordheim and Necromunda are dead, all these specialist games are dead or no longer supported (Blood Bowl).

One thing to realize about Games Workshop: Now, their games are not even their main product. It's the figures themselves. Not for games, mind you. The games are merely advertizing media. The target group is collectors. Only collectors, not gamers. This can be interpreted into each and every action GW has taken since around 2006.
It's why we will never see a HeroQuest re-release by Games Workshop*. Why sell that game with 40 figures for 100 € if you can sell one large figure for 80 €?

But i digress. Again. My point considering this thread being GW now have no interest in boardgames and even then wanted to silence the market tying into RPGs.

*Though, if they somehow take on Gamezone (which isn't possible as chaoticprime has given some indication to), regain copyrights and trademarks for HeroQuest, and then must actually use the copyright to keep patents from becoming obsolete, then, and only then, something like Space Hulk might be done with HeroQuest.
That being said, the re-releasing of Space Hulk probably has two reasons: the existing high-quality sprues and the rights to the name being kept fresh and valid.

Though your observation on GreedWorkshop holds some truth, I think the real reasons are simpler:
they hold the full copyrights on SpaceHulk, but not on HQ. GW would have to mess with Hasbro and vice versa if they wanted to republish HQ.
Have a look ;)

The Fourth Estate is extended certain rights in most countries, all those represented here with us for certain. The only reason that ANY company could possibly use to stop such a thing from being printed would be because it was false. The idea that he'd even ask permission is ridiculous--what kind of journalist doesn't exercise free speech?

That's what I was trying to say. But having a copyright also means that you have to actually use it (by selling product with the name on it) to keep the copyright from becoming obsolete or public domain. Correct me if I'm wrong. That's why they have to publish Space Hulk every few years (and yes, we'll see it again in, say, 2019). It's why Marvel Comics has to print a freakin' She-Hulk comic book carrying the title every now and then. Either way, there's not gonna be another HeroQuest by Games Workshop.
Moreover, the name is still in MoonDesign's hands who - go figure! - release a product carrying the name just often enough to keep the copyright alive and kicking.

Or maybe the interview was just uninteresting and taking up too much space. Maybe Les Edwards had more interesting things to say than Stephen baker. Maybe the publisher/editor said "No" as opposed to Games Workshop. As of now, I've posted something really evilly outrageous.
