Treasure Decks for different occasions

Just had an idea:

How about different decks of treasure cards, depending on what the heroes search for treasure - a room with furniture, an empty room, a corridor, a tomb or a chest, or looting a killed enemy?

In a tomb you would more likely find armor, in a chest rather gold, searching a room or corridor would take longer, increasing the chance of meeting a wandering monster. Tombs and chests are more likely to have traps on them, in an empty room you would find treasure just hidden in the dust or under some rags, which makes traps much more improbable.

I thought about this, too, some time ago; even made a list and created a card back for Tomb Treasures. Alas, it turned out to slow games down, so we did not continue. Special treasures, if any, are now only in the notes of the corresponding quest. I like the idea, though!

I too like the idea.

Instead of deacks of cards there could be a treasure book of tables. You roll a D20 and refer to the appropriate table to find out what you get. Tables could be entitled - Corridor, Empty room, Furniture filled room, tomb, cell, etc. (going a bit complicated?)

Please note - I haven't thaught that through, the idea just came to my mind as I sat at my PC, so I posted it. Don't even know if I really would like it myself.
Having sayd that, the book is a nice idea, but I would miss teh feeling of "searching oneself" when drawing a card.
@ Sir Dobermann: How did this slow down the game? Of course I belife you, but just know I would think reaching for a deck of cards would take the same time, regardless if it's always the same or one of a few.

id considered using a loot deck for when the players kill a 'boss' type character. it would be a small deck of roughly half a dozen cards. when the boss dies one card is drawn at random by whoever dealt the killing blow. the 'loot' would then be split or allocated amongst the party.

I'd probably create custom lists, using percentile dice (with 2d10... tens/ones). That way, it's easy to swap out charts depending on the area or type of quest the heroes are in. Looking at the standard deck, any individual card has a four percent chance of coming up. (Granted, you have a 25% chance in a 24 card deck to pull a Wandering Monster, and it fluctuates as treasure's pulled.)

Here's the standard treasure deck as a percentage table. If a treasure is drawn, cross it off, and give it's percentage to the slot below it. In the case of the 97-100 tile, give it to the one above it.

Awesome! And I thought I was a fanatic

I just had another thought - In the looting the corpse deck/table there definitely needs to be some kind of "he's not quite dead" suprise attack. If no one follows the corpse looting deck idea up I'll produce a set.
