It's a joke. Though it ain't.
At heart I want to be an anarchist/collector-hunter, compeletly autark and independent from anything that's bound by social conveniences.
But I can't because I live in this world, finding myself on a well educated, low-wages (that's quite a rarity in Germany) base that I can live on rather conveniently with the occasional financial heebiejeebie.

So, I limit myself to lecturing people for their bad habits like watching bad TV shows and their responsibilies doing that.
Or soccer wages vs. watching soccer anyway.
Or drinking beer vs. priding oneself not taking drugs. (I'm typing this with a smile now; I think we all learned our lessons, though I won't ever stand off from my POV.)
Or painting another miniature snake or snakeman GREEN vs. doing the right thing and be freakin' creative about snake color schemes.
Or talking incessantly about the awkwardness of Conchita Wurst vs. simply shutting the fraggle up and get on with life and having their own sexual tendencies.
Or...

People are always surprised and smile awkwardly when I tell them about their social responsibilities and their Impending Moral Undoing.
If you're a Christian and yet paint more than one snake green, you're gonna go to hell. That's it.

Much more. Even the pure green ones.
Then there are the green species with some yellowish or off-white speckles and the ones with green-based carmouflage pattern. I'd say next to brown, green is the second-most seen color of real world snakes. Just do a photo search for "snake" at Google.

Well, having said this, I think the snakemen of a given army, fraction, or at least a unit, should have a more or less coherent color sheme, as they are considered as coming from one "nation", or culture. You would not normally paint figures of a human "medieval" army as racially very divergent.
That's not to say that you should limit your fantasy. If you prefer a race of snakemen with very dvergent skintones, go on. But don't blame others for their preferences.
Have a look ;)

Actually most actual snakes are in fact green.
Almost all snakes in the "Serpentes" sub-order (also called "true" snakes) are either green or light brown.
The rest are a part of the "Ophidia" and have much more varied colors. But these aren't actually what biologist would consider "actual" snakes.

This link explains it all:

Nobody was talking about entire factions. Of course these should be coherent in color scheme. Though for HQ I wouldn't even see that point as opposed to wargames.
Orcs and Goblins are green; Trolls are mostly painted green; Lizardmen are mostly painted green; hell, even Fimir are mostly painted green. That's what disturbs me about snakes being green in our hobby. How much of the same color do you want in your dungeon?
Mostly, I don't like color schemes derived from cliché. Most green snakes are; as green dragons are, by the way. I'd like to see snakes and especially snakemen in these color schemes or even more creative ones:

I found all of these and more on the first page when googling for "snake" as suggested by BB. Go figure.
By the way, when sarcasming about green miniature snakes, I don't mean greenish ochre, greenish brown, or greenish gray, or graygreen, or olivekhaki, I mean freakin' green.
This:

And I'm not bashing green snakes, which are indeed far more diverse than I thought. I'm bashing the green that is actually used on miniature snakes. It's always the same.
We're not talking a noble preference for creativity when using green. most snake painters to me seem just lazy because that variation of green above - without any ornamentation - is all I see.

Anybody ever petted a snake? Their skin is incredibly soft!

Also a reminder that this thread went from drugs to art to snakes. Pretty good thread in my opinion.

Lots. I used to have a boa. Constrictors are lovely. Every time I handled him with my glasses on he'd pull them off my face and start attacking them. He'd also do a really cute thing where he'd come right up to my face and lick my nose.
