Greetings from down under

Hey all

Super long time lurker, first time poster here. I've been visiting here on and off for years now. I have come back for the first time in a bit over a year, actually linked back here from somewhere else when I was browsing for people selling re-casts.

Used to LOVE HQ as a kid from about 6 on when I "liberated" my uncles unused copy. Subsequently picked up ROTWL and Against the Ogre Horde retail for $10 each brand new (!!), then found another base set and kellars keep at a garage sale.. had fun painting them all up with my mum and brother. Also got Space Crusade along the way from somewhere - super fun.

Then a series of bad luck, I left the games in my mums house after I moved out, she split with the ex, he never returned any of it :gargoyle:

I ended up with another incomplete copy of Space Crusade.. after having no one to play with I sold it thinking I would make enough to put towards a complete box - it was only missing one squad of marines and their cards etc.... on ebay... I sold it for $1.25  I was so gutted. I should have sourced the spare parts to begin with.

Now I have a 6 year old and a lovely friend of mine donated his copy to me recently that he said was "edging closer and closer to the bin every day"(!) and I've been playing with the kid, best part was when I opened the box there was full kellars keep and ROTWL in there too! Still looking to replace my Ogre Horde and Space Crusade though - I think as far as the HQ expansions go I'll end up printing my own and maybe use cut outs or getting recasts - then I can get the other rare expansions too. SC I'll just have to find a copy eventually, I missed a Mission Dreadnought and an Advanced HQ recently for $50 each by flaking on checking ebay ugh. I scored a cheap copy of Descent 1st ed, but haven't played it yet, and the minis look too big to proxy into HQ.. and it looks maybe a bit more complex/long winded than HQ to play with a 6 YO

The funniest part about playing with my kid at the moment, is depending on the scenario he flips between wanting to be heroes or the bad guys, because he can't read fluently yet though I still have to setup the map etc haha, I just try to not look outside of the room the heroes are currently in. KInda hard to surprise myself with trapdoors etc though :D I only remember a few scenarios vividly so I can still manage a bit of "real" gameplay if I am the heroes. We end up with house rules too if he is the heroes I let him attack more than once, he can stand on tables etc... although when I let the bugger be the monsters as soon as I relaxed my strategy on the rescue of sir ragnar (blocking a doorway from a roomful of monsters with Barbarian) he ran in there and killed ragnar first try haha.

Plenty of good stuff to be found here. Make sure you get them into gaming at an early age that way they learn to use their minds and have an active imagination. Keep on gaming!

Welcome! Post some pix of your games and descriptions in "Saturday Night Dungeon" , and your kid will have a souvenir that will last forever! Or at least until a class X mass coronal ejection.

Haha, yeah pretty much. I still wonder about tracking down an email address for the old step dad and asking about the hq / but if I get a response of "yeah they are in landfill" I might be a bit heartbroken lol.
