GM or Player?

I'd imagine that most of us usually play as the GM. How many of you ever play as a hero? So far I've only been the GM and I'm fine with this. I've had the game for decades and it's hardly been played so I'm just happy it's being played. The other night one of the players said they'd like to try being the GM. I'm down with that so I'll just use her character although I kinda know all the original quests well enough that it won't be as much fun for me.

Anyway, just thought I'd see what you play as and whether you get to change roles.

I play only as GM, and I always literally force my family to play with me. None of them likes the game

I play Morcar. Period. No discussion. (Like chaoticprime, I do it with a vengeance).
My players are too fun-based so that any one of those people playing Morcar would rape the rules.
I'm talking about my girlfriend and her daughter here.

I playtest alone.
And after that, next year, I'm gonna try and compile another group (two members already sighted and only mildly struggling) as my two girls seem to play only out of pity for the nerd in the house.

We run two kinds of games.

Continuing the ongoing official quests OR sitting down and a couple of us each writing up a quick quest each, then proceed to GM our own quest.
When writing our own quest I usually get voted to at least do one of the quests. I simply write better quests than my buddies, whose quests tend to be more hack'n'slash. I like playing those too though.

When playing the official quests, sadly we are only 3-4 players. That means we each picked a hero and then take turns being the GM.
I'm the dwarf, so if I'm GM'ing the party plays without the dwarf. When my girlfriend is GM'ing we play without the barbarian etc. etc.
It's a little tough missing a hero but the system is actually pretty good. Everyone take turns GM'ing and everyone pretty much level up at the same rate.

Overall I'd say I play both, but mostly GM.

Up till a month ago I played the Barbarian and Wizard and my wife was GM. We played with her parents who like playing a lot.
Recently, I've started a new group with 3 friends, and now I play Morcar, my wife the Elf, and the other the rest. It's quite an adjustment! Very fun though. I'm gonna play Rescue of Sir Ragnar mondaynight, and I'm preparing soundeffects on my tablet, and some ambient music.

I only play the game with my family, no gaming group for me

We have played through the game system with my wife as GM me and my 6 year old, Austin, usually playing as 2 heroes each and my 4 year old, Fraser, either playing as a Hero or helping Mummy be the evil wizard. Sometimes Fraser would swap half way through a quest, he doesn't really have the attention span for this game yet!

We have played through some of the custom quests from here. For these I am GM and the Boys play all 4 Heroes. My wife doesn't usually join in these games. These can be difficult to get through as the boys don't play very tactically

Austin has also found Heroscribe on the laptop and written a few of his own quests. We have played through some of these with him is the evil wizard and Me & Fraser as the Heroes.

I like that we swap roles and all get to take turns at being the Heroes & Morcar. I think I would get bored if I only ever played one role in the game.

I was playing both GM and the Hero but the latest years I am playing the Wizard in one of the two groups of tasoe. Of course I still have many good ideas in my head and I am not ready to put my “cape” in the closet yet. In fact, my two sons are growing very fast and I won’t say no for a family gaming group.

I'm thinking that I might be able to play is a hero soon. The two groups I play with has my wife playing as well and I've suggested that there's a third couple that we know that I'm sure would play. She said she wouldn't be interested in playing as a third hero so I've suggested she could try the GM. Weee...
