best,
Seb.

Well, I tried to do the same. Made 20 HQ bases for my Skaven, added some sand, primed them bleached bone, drybrushed some white on them, because I though they were darker than the board tiles but white is quite thin, so drybrushing was hard. Ended up lightening the bases somewhat though. Then I tried one base with a wash of Devlan mud, which just made it darker again entirely :(
Also tried one with quickshade, which initially looked better, but can't really tell until it dries completely. Not as easy as it looks :(

Hmmm.. okay full recipe - sorry to hear your difficulty Sjeng :(

- Sand the base lightly to remove mould lines.
- I then attack the edges by cutting dents, burring the surface with a drill and scratching it with file point. Essentially aiming for a ruined look like the gameboard. Apply the odd little 'rock' and a few grains of sand.
- Spray the model with white basecoat
- Two layers of Bleached Bone, then a light wash of Devlan Mud or equivalent.
- Dry thoroughly, I usually do the Charadon Granite edging.
- Drybrush the base surface with an eye for the less damaged surfaces.
- Highlight with white/bleached bone sparingly.
- Add Devlan washes where you need, possibly even Charadon Granite in the cracks (watered down).

You should get a similar result, it is about 10-15% darker off the gameboard shading, but from sitting at the table playing, almost indistinguishable.

Wow! loving those! the top left is a mixture of normal and night goblins correct?
the bottom right goblin - wheres that from? love the 'stolen' shield!

I had a think about how long its been since i did any painting - must be getting on for 10 years! :o so last week i dug out some of my old stuff - had a box of high elven archers pretty much unopen. needed new glue. the old bottle was... past its sell by date. i suppose. kinda exploded too. so far the tubs of paint I've opened haven't been too bad, few drops of water and a bit of a stir and they seem ok... put together and base painted 4 archers last night. will have a go painting them over the next week. looking at the additional parts - i reckon i could easily assemble a few of them to make great Elves or even a wizard for HQ.
forgot how much i hated removing the casting lines from plastic - anyone got any tips? i was kinda scraping them off with a sharp knife or filing where i could.

Maaaaaate those paint jobs are truly epic in their awesomness. Sweet work there Seb. Am feeling slightly flawed by the fact that my figure painting looks like its been done by a 3 toed left handed squigsloth

Heya Tott, Rommandu :D

Thanks guys! :)

The goblins to the upper left are standard goblins, with Night Goblin arms and 40k Gretchin heads with a couple of modifications in there. Bogrot Stunty Stomper, aka the Gobbo with the mace, he uses the larger Gnoblar head with a helmet stuff on. ;)

Roomandu, that's quite a visual :D

Oh and, for anyone who does Warhammer Quest, I just released my Dungeon Room blank PSD file (photoshop) with a Dungeon Room Card blank:

The image will take you to the site where you can download it and have a play. I explain it more fully there.

cheers!

I have found my new level by which to compare my train wreck of minis to... You must do some type of tutorial on achieving your minis. I couldn't believe they were HQ minis at first...

As for that squig I have to mention my 1st experience with squigs. When I was a teen we had a scouting leader that was really into wargaming and would always start us off from random locations. One time we started at Disneyland and to keep it brief in very short order there was a silhouette of a decapitated mouse on account of a squig. I haven't thought of that in years but thanks to your squig and his bulging eye that memory is now back and fresh. Please teach us all how to paint as you do.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the encouraging feedback and positive reactions :D

Hero update this time - completed him as a side project to a commission I was completing (last one before I focus on my own collection awhile).

Keeping the palette limited and not going overbaord on details, I wanted to retain that HQ feel for the simple art style - so gold bracers, and Wood Elf tones.

The Wardancer :

I've been trying to find some old school Wardancer artwork to make a card up, but so far nothing has turned up. Shall keep at it :)

Not sure what special he should have, thoughts?

Seb. :)

Always...

a) two attacks with 2 AD each (at the beginning [two short swords], developed with his weapon purchases) IF he announces to surrender his next Defend roll.
The two attacks have to hit two different opponents, each may be defended against normally
b) some variation of the above
OR
c) My complete SWORDMASTER special rule set:
Targeted Attack: You may re-roll your attack. However, you must accept the re-rolled attempt.
Riposte: If your opponent rolls a skull-less attack, you may immediately counterattack. Your opponent may defend normally. Your counterattack does not count as an action.
Agility/Dexterity: You may not wear any piece of armor that gives you more than +2 attack dice. (My rules back-formatted into original NA rules, this means he may purchase only shield and helmet, but no additional body armor.) At the beginning of each quest, you must have more AD than DD when fully equipped.
Duel: If any one opponent is reachable for melee you may not make a ranged attack against any opponent.

The Swordsmaster as presented substitutes the Barbarian template as the attack-based warrior in my game.
The other types are the defence- and skill-based Adventurer (Dwarf), the spell-like powers-based adept (Elf), and the spellcaster (Wizard), in case anyone's interested.
