Frustrate (v) mid-15c., from Latin frustratus, past participle of frustrari "getting Key to the Kingdom as a Christmas present even though you had specifically asked to be given HeroQuest," from frustra (adv.) "in vain, in error," related to fraus "injury, harm" (see fraud). Related: Frustrated; frustrating.
