Contest Rewards

Postby Goblin-King » February 17th, 2013, 7:42 am

I've been thinking a lot about how I'd really like some contests in here.
Then it struck me! Seeing as drathe & Co. have been tinkering with those little rewards in bottom of people's posts: How about making ribbons/trophies to be used in contests.
Winning material could be uploaded to the site and the trophy could link to it:

hover mouse -> [Winner of Quest Contest 2013]
click - > follow link

This way we would also get past the hazzle of arranging actual prizes. The trophy IS the prize. Of course a real prize could still be arranged, but it's not needed.

Also let's have some contests soon! :D

Good idea, but at the moment the difficulties seem to be with the organizing of the contest. drathe wrote that he already has a prize.
Have a look ;)

I think both would be good. A physical prize and a virtual one on the forum for first place. And if there's enough entries for second and third places we could just have the virtual ones on the forum.

I've made an offer to drathe - I do some minor work with clay, and can do some fairly okay
scenery-type pieces. If there were to be a contest, and drathe would want me to make something,
and I were able to make something nice - what would be a desired scenery-type piece you all out
there might want? Here are some ideas of things I have made or think I could make.
- wishing well (I need to work on this - mine fell apart just a bit)
- pier/dock (could probably make row boat) - the pier held up well
- wagon - made this...it held up well
- rocks (I know...sounds dumb, but you never know)
- table (I think I could do this)
- tombstones - made these...they hold up nicely
- rough-cut/wooden beam fence
- cobblestone wall, waist high for heroes (maybe...I'd have to test first)
- wooden sign - made one, it's held up nicely
- pumpkin - done this...easy
- spellbook
- potions
- tree stump

Any other ideas? Or any votes for one of the above? Just trying to get an idea of what I
might expect to make...again, if I am making a reward for a contest in the future.

A wishing well would be awesome, especially with that water resin I keep seeing.
cobblestone walls are a good idea, make them 1 square wide and some 2 squares, for 3D walls instead of the little tiles.
good looking treasure chests are always nice, and a loot-pile :)

I think a hangman gallow would be awesome. Maybe even one that has 2-3 setup on one platform. Something that scales well with the HQ board would be nice. Doesn't have to fit in a room necessairly, (as the rooms can be made bigger in custom quests).

Something similar on ebay.... http://www.ebay.ca/itm/110361967415?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_647wt_1163

Only I was thinking leave the person out of it, and just have the rope. It would leave more open to what can happen on the DM's side of things.

I think I might be able to do the hangman's gallows...similar to the one you linked to, anyhow.

And yes...anything I make would be scaled for HQ.

Nice! I think that would be a great addition. Especially if the noose was just left empty (without a figure), you could even use a piece of twine to tie it!

That was my thought. I actually tried making a rope coiled up for the small pier
that I made for myself...couldn't get the clay to stay together that thin...it kept
wanting to crack and fall in half. I would almost have no choice but to use actual
twine - maybe sewing string or something like that.
