Is the World of Heroquest the World of Warhammer?

Yes, they are one and the same.

Yes, they are essentially the same, but we musn't feel obliged to adopt everything from WH to HQ.

Depends, they once have been the same, but since the world of Warhammer has been developed further into a different direction since the days of Heroquest, they are by now two different worlds.

No, the guys from Greed Workshop wanted it to be, but this was not the intention of MB, who own the game.

No, they are two different worlds, and that's that. Any similarities are due to the fact that the same people created the backgrounds and re-used some ideas.

I use a home-made world background anyways.

I scanned the map from the sticker book. It can also be found in the gallery artchives.

Interesting topic. I have a question relating to the Gargoyle, which is clearly modelled on a Khorne Bloodthirster. Why didn't they call it that I wonder? Maybe it was 'toned down' by MB to make it more child friendly?
Also, many other companies use 'ratmen' instead of Skaven to avoid Grandma Wendy's IP. I wonder if the new monster types in the barbarian and elf packs also reflect that the intellectual property of GW was being used anymore?

Apologies if this has been discussed already!

It is the belief that our Gargoyle is actually a statue of a Bloodletterthirster of Khorne, which is sometimes magically brought to life by chaos sorcery. It is therefore a gargoyle of sorts.
But obviously you can also just play it as an actual bloodletterthirster in those quests where he isn't a statue.

Reason: typo. it's a bloodthirster. Thanks Zenith. is there no strike through code?

That map is awesome! Never knew it existed.

As for canon, I personally like to think of the Marvel Winter Special as canon, because then I can have Orcs called Mildred. :D

Or how about Terry Pratchett's line--it goes something like "There are no continuity errors, there are just alternative pasts."

*Warhammer nerd switch ON* Bloodletters are lesser daemons of Khorne. The Bloodthirster is the greater daemon. Though they're all of them mad, bad and dangerous to know. ;)

Aren't they both in the Marvel winter special and the Halls quest from white dwarf? Or are those not considered cannon sources for heroquest?

It fair to think that the BG of heroquest is contemporary to the WARAHMMER RPG book (1986) where demon were simply demon. The four major god are from the realms of chaos book (1988) it could explain the odd things. The original warhammer Bg were far more generic as it is right now.
The hypothesis of the statue of a Khrone's demon is pretty good too.
As far as I know the world map is the same for HQ and warhammer, Prince Magnus in HQ is probably the same as Magnus the Pious from WHRPG. The story line in this book stops during the reign of magnus.
The witch lord is probably the famous Heinrich Kemmler too...

I seem to remember having eaten those words.
Skaven are i AHQ, the WD quests and even an unreleased quest pack.
I do consider the white dwarf expansions official material.

So, skaven are very much canon as far as I'm concerned.

my tuppence worth is this:
the HQ world is obviously based on the GW world. BUT the important thing to realise is that with HQ, its set in whatever world your DM says it is! :p
personally i like using the GW world for inspiration, but i change it to suit whatever story i want to tell in that particular quest.

Might as well ask "is Diablo 3 the same world as Diablo 2?" to which the answer is fraggle NO!

....ok, maybe not that strong, but you get the idea - they might use loads of the same concepts and even mechanix, but they're like family members. You'd marry ONE of the sisters, but the other ones are yeeecchhh.

Our group invents our own world history for whatever game we're playing.

Just because the story sucks doesn't make d3 not cannon!

So why do some of you not find the marvel winter special cannon?
