Just knocked the dust off the box...

So, there I was surfing the net. I was looking for new, less known board games and came across an old hero quest set for sale. It made me remember how all my friends loved the game and I kinda remembered seeing it in my parants attic a couple of years ago. It was spread out throughout several differant boxes the last time I saw it I remembered being really dissapointed in young me for not caring enough to keep it all together. Any way, after seeing it mentioned on line I set out for my parants attic, determined to see just how much of the old game I could dig up. After about an hour of searching and piecing things back together I had recovered every single piece! I only had one expansion pack..... the elf one. And I found all of the pieces for that as well!
So, I brought it home and showed it to my children. They really didn't seem verry impressed at first. So I dug down to the bottom of the box and found my old character sheet from when I was 13 years old. My oldest son is 13 now so he really thought that was cool. I then showed him character sheets from his uncle, aunt, grand father, even his Great Grandpa had a character sheet in the box. I'm pretty sure we only managed to get him to play once. Any way, now I had his attention. So I layed out the board and explained how danger lurks behind every turn. I showed him the different characters and told him stories about magic and treasures.
By this time, he was ready to play. So I got all three kids and the wife together and we began Hero Quest THE FLASHBACK. I was usually Zargon any way so I fell right back into my old role. My youngest daughter is 7 so she obviously became the Barbarian.
The game was Awesome!
It took me right back to my childhood adventures and, wouldn't you know it, it is now my kids favorite game. I showed them the one quest that I made (we didn't have a photocopier so I just drew in the back of the first quest book) My oldest seemed really interested in this and so I was going to find a website to download blank maps for him to fill in. I wound up finding a Design your own quest kit (which was obviously overpriced) but I splurged and bought it any way.
We have never had a dedicated family game night so it looks like Hero Quest is starting a new family tradition. We have been getting together to play 2 or 3 nights a week for the past 3 weeks.
I want to make some new treasure cards but I want them to be the same size, shape and general appearance of the origional cards so that they can go in the deck and will not be known until they are pulled and looked at.
I really was not going to start my first post with any kind of a question like this but I can't wait. Does anyone know someone that makes cards that are the same as the origionals? You know, for replacement cards and new card ideas that I may have? I tried a couple of card creator things on line but I cant seem to get them to work and even if I did I would wind up with cards that were similar but not perfect as I would like them printed on the same material as the origional cards.
Any suggestions?

Just check the forum for cards. There is a LOT of material here, boards, quests, cards, tiles etc.etc. you can print.
There's also HeroScribe, a quest maker for maps, and also a word template for making quest notes (you paste the HeroScribe map in there). No need for a design kit

Welcome, and great first post!

There are many threads about card making in the Inn, but having them indistinguishable (?) from the original cards is a lot harder. There are several print services in the net who will print professional-style playing cards with your design, but they are not so cheap if you need only one deck, and I don't know how good they would match the HeroQuest cards. Would rather be in the format of normal poker cards.
My advise would be: have a look at the Inn for the different techniques to make cusom cards, choose the method that best fits your skills and requirements, then reprint the original cards plus the addtions you want.

Awesome story.
As for cards, I would definitely suggest searching the site, though I think I may have found an option I will be trying in a paycheck or two.

I think drathe has a card template with the cards laid out in a way that will work perfectly with these cards, but I don't know for sure because I have not printed them yet, much less purchased plaincards.
