Heroquest Wiki

Postby Nephew of Mentor » September 18th, 2012, 10:36 pm

At one point I was thinking that a Heroquest Wiki would be very helpful for the development of quest text. I did find one , alas, it is not detailed as I would like.

With this formatting it doesn't really qualify as a wiki, in my mind. The name (Loretome) is perfect, but it doesn't contain anything beyond the game system information. I would like to see a wiki that covers everything, and I mean everything. My preferred wiki would include:
Information for every character ever hinted at(even if it is just that Borin's name was given to his equipment.
Information on every location ever named.
Names, stats, and variations on all monsters.
All items, spells, and artefacts
All tiles.
Synopsis for each expansion, even unofficial ones professionally produced.

I think this would be very helpful, but maybe too much to ask for. What thinks you folks? Do you know of any Wikis?
Sure it's pretty scary when the witch lord returns but what you should really be afraid of is "Resurrection of the Witch Lord". Resurrected baddies always come back more threatening than ever, usually kind of demonic with wings and horns and hell fire to announce their arrival. Think Gannondorf or Mother Brain from Super Metroid.

We actually had a Wiki here at the Inn. It was among our original ideas for the Website, but was later removed due to lack of (zero) use.

Thats a true shame, but understandable. Also the probable explanation for the loretome wiki lacking detail. Might just have to make my own personal guide, unless there is one out there somewhere.

Who among you also know http://heroquest.wikia.com and feeding it with some more contents?

Be worth to post link of that wikia here in Yee Olde Inn in special place more visible? As eg. the main menu "Home | Blog | Forum | Gallery | Quests | Tiles | Wikia | Links | Credits"

I've often thought of starting up a HQ wiki - zero experience is what's holding me back.
Basically I'd want exactly what you are suggesting, Nephew.

I do know of the one posted, but to be honest I find it absolutely terrible to use.
Besides lacking in content it seems to have some sort of online play function built into it. This just makes everything worse and litters the page with unwanted stuff.

We have wikis on the work as well.

They are all dying the same death:
It's work to update them. More than a table or a forum, a lot more.
The editor commands are not the same like we're used to. So it is extra work if you want to have it good looking: you do the edit three, four, five times until it fits. That's frustrating. After some short time, people stop updating it when they have something (anything) else to do.

Other people take a look at the half-finished wiki. They see no content. They don't come back.

Couldn't this be done easily on the actually HQ wikipedia entry?
An editor could just add a section for(In Game History) or something like that.
Anyone can edit wikipedia, right? I don't know how hard it is...I've never done that.

As a personal side note - if it was done through wikipedia, anyone could get to it. I know
for me, my work internet network blocks a whole mess of stuff, including the Inn. :D

I think that edit (in code mode, not in design mode) may be hard to set. But i thought that some ppl here would know do it better than me.

I just think that Wiki is more for collect datas in organized way and forums is more for questions, adverts, etc.

I wonder if a wiki would be the best way of approaching the Compendium of Heroquest Rules?
