HeroQuest Unboxing: 1990 Edition

Postby Kurgan » September 10th, 2021, 9:16 pm

As my first official foray into the seedy world of Twitch, I've posted up two videos (so far) showing an unboxing of my edition of classic Hero Quest. Strictly low budget, but kind of a dry run for what some of us hope to do (if needed) for the Hasbro Remake in a few months (God willing!).

This may or may not be how you would do an unboxing, but it's how I chose to do it. Feedback is of course welcome.

If it were an unboxing of a "sealed" set, then you'd probably expect to find that flyer advertising KK/ROTWL and a survey form asking what you thought of the game. The expansions may have included an order form (or two) where you could send for the other expansions including EQP & BQP, with prices ranging from $10-15, plus $2 shipping if memory serves.

Equipment used: Headset microphone, two usb webcams, OBS Studio.

Feel free to "follow" if so inclined. Since this is a brand new channel it doesn't have partner status so live gaming is kind of a problem, but we may decide to post some Zoom recordings on there (if the participants agree) since that's where we normally play. In fact we're planning to play tomorrow afternoon, if you want to join us...

Update: Youtube version - both videos combined - HeroQuest Unboxing: 1990 Edition

What we can do there is get something going where we are streaming a game on something else (zoom, say) and one of the players can share their screen and audio on Twitch. It's a little fiddly, but I've got a notion of how to do it and I have the bandwidth to stream to both if I'm playing (I just got vaccine #3 and was not up to playing today).

If TTS ends up working out, might be that Kurgan will have bandwidth to stream it on his end.

This could wind up being very cool!

Yeah, absolutely if I run OBS, Zoom and Twitch simultaneously, it is pretty slow (30 sec delay). Then again that's on the twitch side... I'm not sure how the recording would turn out, I didn't play around with it enough. It could be that if the game itself is fine, then the recording would still be usable, but maybe not. You guys with better computers or whatever could try it instead. I'd just have to allow someone else to be able to upload videos besides me (I don't have a problem sharing it with trustworthy individuals).

Zoom + OBS is running like a dream for me now though, so that's progress at least.

Well done! Maybe you can merge both videos in a single one?

Yes. Looks like I have to be an affiliate (need 50 followers, have 2 right now) before it'll allow me to upload the merged video on twitch though. Could put it on my youtube channel before I leave.

Sorry you lost me at two minutes ten seconds when you told me you were going to give me imperial measurements and then proceeded to give me standard measurements….lol
I was hoping it was going to be a sealed game that would have been insane.
On a side note my original game set was forty dollars Canadian and expansions were seventeen dollars Canadian at the time.
Good job though.

Thanks. ;) Sealed HeroQuest unboxings are already on youtube if you want to search those down.

I'm not sure why it looked like the EU version to me on the back, the cards are correct, even if the quest book has a different cover. Oops.

Update: Posted a long read-through of the Instruction booklet (had a video problem at one point but only lost in tiny section... I'll fix that and post it on YT too eventually).

Youtube version of the unboxing posted as well (see OP).

Looks like we'd need 75 followers to be able to do squad streaming (have 2 so far!). So any support is appreciated. Until then any virtual HQ games we post will have to be pre-recorded. I'll be on vacation 9/17-10/4 so it'll be awhile, but until then check us out! If you have a Twitch account we'd love to hear from you.

Twitch by default only saves past streams for 2 weeks, so the files are gone now (I will be uploading copies to youtube when I get the time), so sorry about the dead links.

My plan is to stream more stuff for sure in November, as this month is turning out to be pretty busy so far.
