I’m going through the Quests to find the special characters that are called out. These would be where a different mini would be used and not just a different paint job. If I miss one let me know. I’m enjoying doing this so I ask that no one tries to jump ahead of me.

So that list pulls the Named characters together.

Is there a list of “non-named characters” special enemies? IE an ‘official bestiary’? (Bestiary? Monsteriary?)

I’m doing where a different figure would be used. The list Kurgan pointed to is all the “named” monsters/allies. An example would be an Orc with a crossbow. Different figure but doesn’t have a name. There’s some Chaos Warriors and Gargoyles that said they were made of stone but to me that just says different paint job, not a whole different mini.

The only "official bestiary" if you want to call it that, is found at the back of each one of the Quest books (second to the last page, in the A4 scans). It will list the enemies and talk about them. There's also a Monsters deck. This is all easy to find, it wouldn't require a big research project, just go to the Inn pages and start clicking and Phoenix's quest book remakes are easy to look through as well. Have a blast! If you just need excuses to do more painting and mini-crafting...



I don't think there is any single (certainly not official) D&D style Monstrous Compendium book that lists every single enemy in the entire game, but on these forums people have created "expanded" DM screens for the Evil Wizard Player (Zargon/Mentor) maybe that's what you're looking for? Otherwise if you have the game, you already have it, unless you're looking to add every generic monster from every expansion, which too I believe has been done. In fact, looks like Oftkilted just relinked to it recently here. Enjoy!

So whether you are looking for generic enemies that have slightly different stats, or named special characters we've got you covered. The Orcs with staves or crossbows and Goblins with Bows seem like the only ones that would merit the effort of making a whole new mini (don't forget the Goblin crossbowmen from the Combat Cards if you like to use those!). Maybe the Chaos Warrior that has Orc's Bane? A few "stone" colored Gargoyles and Chaos Warriors?
I admit there is a certain attraction to the idea of having everything be plastic and painted... and even I snagged a few rubber minis out of my fantasy monsters tube that looked like little crouching wolfmen I thought would be fun to use in the Mage of the Mirror, even though you could just use the Giant Wolf minis or the included cardboard werewolf tiles already. They're just gray though.

I use a figure for the genie spell and the elementals spells. of course I have a prisoner for sir ragnar and have different minis for all of the chaos warlock or orc boss stand ins. The miner, werewolves and princess in the elf quest have tiles instead of minis so I use figures for those too.

that is what I can remember off the top if my head without rereading the quest books. But basically any time it asks for a monster or npc I use a figure, I have an extensive collection.

If there is, I could not find it.

I only saw the stone ones, which I would just consider a paint job.
