Low lying wall, build instructions

Been asked on here and fb on how I make my walls so documenting the build here.



What you need:
Lots of lego
Extra firm moulding clay
Wire
Scultping tools
Exacto Knife
Small flathead
plyers/wirecutter
small ruler
tinfoil


You will specifically need a lot of the flat top style lego in a variety of sizes

You will want a good sized area of lego base to use. You want to use the thicker bases as the thin flimsy ones will bend too much.



Make a border around the edges and start laying down the first of the flat top peices

Length of the peices will be determined on the size of your board squares. My board uses 30mm squares so this first wall will be 12cmx9cm. If the flat lego doesn't hit your measurement dead on just extend it past and you can cut off the excess clay after.

Next wrap the area in more lego, then cover the top border with the smooth top lego for later. Repeat this process until your whole lego base is full

Next you want to fill all of the sections half full of the molding clay So we can lay the wiring down.



This piece is going to be 1x2 squares so 30mmx60mm. Cut the wire to length after bending it 90deg. Make sure to go a touch bit shorter with the wire so it doesn't poke out when you trim the clay to size.

Side note a single lego square is 8mm wide. I found that to be a bit too thick for the board so in the end I will be trimming all these walls down to be 6mm wide. So keep that in mind when you are laying your wire down so that it will stayed centered when you trim the excess clay off to thin the wall. Also make sure you cut the excess off the inside of the wall not the outside or you will bugger up your measurements.

Top off the rest with clay till its overflowing then take a spatula or straight edge and trim the walls flush.

I found it best to start cutting the excess 2mm off while the clay its still in the mold. Just make sure you do not cut it all the way through or you will start damaging the lego below it. Then with the small flathead begin prying and removing the lego from around the wall.

I then transfer the piece to a smaller lego slab and finalize removing the excess. Then measuring and cutting the wall to size.

Finally I roll tinfoil all over the wall to add texture then carve the bricks into the wall using sculpting tools. At this point the walls are ready to bake in the oven to cure the clay. Have fun
