A special team of elite goblin archers for a more devious challenge.

Goblin Elite Archery Rangers (aka the GEAR forces)
These small platoons of special Goblin warriors are used for assassination and recon. Typically dispatched in teams of 4-8 soldiers.
Move: 10/8
Attack: 2/2 (Goblin Bow and Short Sword)
Defend: 2 (Leather Armor)
Body: 1
Mind: 2
Special: Move/Hit/Move
When they employ their special ability they may only move a total of 8 squares.
GEAR Commanders will be typically equipped with Enchanted Arrows, and a Talisman of Communication.

Talisman of Communication
This item will allow the user to mystically send a message to a recipient. Typically this will be a scroll which is written in and once the message is completed the message composer will roll up the scroll and speak the name of the person to receive the scroll.
More advanced forms of this magic item will send a verbal message across the veil directly to the ears of the intended recipient.
And the most advanced form of this magic item allows for 2 way verbal communications in real time for a number of minutes.

If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Personally, I would cut their special movement a bit more...maybe 6 or 7 spaces.

But, honestly, absolutely beautifully designed, simply written. Have you used them yet?
How did it go, if you did?

No. I just thought of them when I was thinking "what would special ranger type soldiers in the Goblin ranks be capable of?".

Thank you.

..."what would special ranger type soldiers in the Goblin ranks be capable of?"

I figure Goblin Rangers would be capable of molesting any small animals they came across in the wild.

Wayward squirrels and rabbits are doomed everywhere.

I have used them. A few weeks ago we played a game. G.E.A.R. soldiers are fun, deadly and a nuisance for heroes. Fun stuff. My favorite is to run a dude in a room plink an arrow, run him out of the room, the next goblin does the same thing and the next goblin as well. Then it is a merry chase after goblins.

Another Powerful Minion of Chaos

Ork Assassin (OA)
This Ork will stalk a hero and strike when the hero is alone.
Move: 8
Attack: 3 (ranged or melee) Special Ork only weapons that are ergonomically made for orks. Any use by heroes will be a -2 dice.
Defend: 3
Body: 4
Mind: 1
Special: When the Ork Assassin is brought into play he is hidden on the EWP copy of the map in a discovered area of the map. Typically this monster is brought into play after a triggering event. Perhaps the 2nd Wandering Monster, or if the Players enter a particular room or hallway then this monster is put into play. As usual place it in the quest notes.
This assassin will carefully track the heroes just out of sight until there is a chance to attack one of the heroes alone. Should a hero be left alone in a room or hallway, the assassin will be revealed at maximum range where he has LOS on the target on the EWP turn at the EWP discretion. On the EWP turn the Assassin will attack and then move away so as to hide. If he is able to break LOS with the heroes then he may be taken off the board. The location of the Assassin is recorded on the EWP map and he may strike from stealth again on a subsequent EWP turn. The OA may open doors and move through rooms, but he never alerts other monsters. Now of course if the players find the Assassin in their exploration, the OA must be placed back on the map until such time as he can break LOS again. The OA will always know where the heroes are once he is brought into play. He is well aware of all the corridors and rooms in the dungeon.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.

This is an interesting monster that can even feature in a Quest goal. But why only 1MP for such a crafty, elite opponent?

Also, I'd say an Orc Assassin shouldn't reveal itself only to immediately get boxed in. A lone Hero in a dead-end room or dead-end corridor could trigger an OA to reveal itself, but if the connecting room or corridor is blocked by the triggering Hero or other nearby Heroes, the OA will quickly be vanquished. Maybe 1 MP is appropriate!

I'd amend the text: "...Should a hero be left alone in a room or hallway on the EWP turn, the assassin will may be revealed at maximum range, where he has LOS on the target but at the EWP discretion...."

Now "...at the EWP discretion...." can take precedence without conflict with "..will be revealed...." At first I didn't get the EWP discretion part , so I figured wrongly that triggering an OA reveal was mandatory. Thus the diagram. After a day of work, I sometimes feel like I'm the one with 1 MP! :?
