This and the following 14 posts were split from General Heroquest Discussion on 7/21/16:

SirRick wrote:Those are pretty cool. I never used skull tiles except for boss characters, but those look a lot handier to use compared to digging around a bunch of random tiles looking for the skull variety.

I recently found this company in England called em4 miniatures. They sell these plastic dwarf and orc minis that are perfect for this game. I got some dwarf minis to use as Chaos Dwarves in a dwarf quest book i want to make. I got some of the orcs too for those times when specific orcs have bows or longswords or whatever. They could also be used as black orcs as well.

Anyone else know of any other things you've discovered that are perfect for Heroquest?

There are tons of games that have figures that fit perfectly into HeroQuest. Dragon Strike I'm sure is a popular pick, not too expensive either. There was an old D&D game released in Europe that has some decent figures. I don't know if the D&D miniatures work, but they'd be a possibility also, especially since there's a wide variety of them

yes... Dragon Strike. I bought Dragon Strike just for the boards, perfect for HeroQuest. I liked the female thief so I made a mod to fit her into HQ, it's include here.

I find Dragon Strike to be a near perfect alternative for the minis in the rare quest packs.
Orc = Orc Shaman, Ice Gremlins
Bugbears = Ogres, Yeti, possibly even the Polar Warbear
The purple heroes = The elven archers/warriors, other random people
Evil Wizard = High Mage
Death Knight = Necromamcer or special skeletons
Troll = The Frozen Horror

That covers most of the bases if you dont mind recycling the same minis over and over.

Cheapest way to get bunches of minis is maybe Dragonstrike, Battle Masters, & Lionheart (though these are also climbing in price same as heroquest.) Other games, such as Legend of Zagor have nice minis but they are not as easily available and probably more expensive than getting Heroquest replacements. The em4 are a nice option for orcs and Dwarfs, but they are not sold in the States.

Possibly the best way to get quality, quantity and variety is to patiently search for a Warhammer eBay lot at a decent price.

Try eBay: "Warhammer" "Orc, Goblin, Ogre, Barabarian, Wizard, etc."

Also a great set of figures comes with GW's DungeonQuest, specifically the Heroes for DungeonQuest Expansion if you can get it for a reasonable price.

I really like searching for "eBay oldhammer" or "ebay warhammer metal" to find some nicer vintage miniatures i like to paint.

Also try ebay:"ral partha miniature" and Reaper Miniatures

http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones
http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/DarkHeavenLegends

I mostly do these from the perspective of painting; but i imagine you could find many replacement pieces for the rare sets and custom modules.

They are from a line called "Dungeons & Dragons: The Legend of Drizzt Board Game"

Does anyone have any good suggestions for Ogres?

I haven't been real happy with what i have found oher than expensive 1980s metal citadel ogres.

Dark World.. You get skeletons, Orcs, Ogres, and 3 special monsters... (really cheap on ebay most of the time).

For lack of any decent Ogre models, I've been using Reaper bugbears, like this one:

They look a lot like big hairy men.

Warhammer Ogres vary in price day to day, but you can get a nice set of 'em for a good price sometimes. Go for the Golgfag set. Considering the way the Warhammer market works they are pretty much an investment anyway.

Image

The cheapest (while still workable) proxy I've ever seen for ogres are the Tim-Mee Cavemen sold in dollar stores, the scale is pretty good (especially since Warhammer ogres' sizes are all over the place) even if the detail isn't. Painting and re-basing should make them look passably good:

Twelve bucks gets you 48 'ogres' on Amazon... Find them at Dollar Tree and you'll pay only a buck.

Also, go here to see some mods on them:
