Mantis foam storage cases

Postby Sjeng » December 5th, 2014, 8:13 am

Some of you may remember the KS by Mantis Creations with the foam trays in cardboard boxes.
I've received 2 of them a bit ahead of the rest, and took some pics. These are perfect for my storage and transportation needs:

Image

The left one is half a 36 heavy infantry tray 23mm high. The right one is a tray from the X-wing set (I asked for just that tray "small ships", to try the sizes. It normally comes as a full X-wing case set), which is quite good for lots of figures.

Image

This is another full 36 heavy inf. tray in 23mm.

Image

This is the 40 infantry tray, 23mm, perfect for taller minis and ogres on HQ bases hehe. Those Warhammer Regiment goblins can stand up in them.

And the next pic is my recent addition of minis in a 60 rifle infantry tray, 23mm. I got a complete Warhammer regiment set for cheap, only missing 1 goblin and 1 dak elf.

Image

More Bones minis by Reaper in half a 57 infamtry tray 23mm, and half a 40 infantry tray 23mm.

Image

My Myth figures also fit nicely in a 57 infantry 23mm tray, but the captains are much bigger. Tried them in a 36 heavy infantry, and they fit, but I need a deeper one of these (40mm).

Image

Image

Krosmaster Arena, yay! Again, half a 36 heavy inf. tray, but I think 30mm would fit better than 23mm.
The right half is the X-wing small ships tray again, which would also be nice in 30mm. I think I could fit the 3D trees in the larger slots to the right. I'll have to try that out.

This is what the box looks like:

Tried some Zombicide minis as well:

Mantis is going to do another KS for a case designed specifically for Zombicide, with a tray to hold the tiles, dice, car tokens, room tokens 100x100mm, a tray for all the other tokens plus cards (sleeved), and trays for the miniatures. definitely gonna check that one out. |_P

Wow, those are pretty awesome looking. I built myself a case last weekend but have been having problems with finding foam inserts. My efforts to cut a foam sheet myself has produced some nasty results. If i can fit something like those in the box, im set!

What kind of minis are those in the top few photos... the gray ones... are they Reaper?

I've also tried cutting foam myself, and yes, it gets nasty. It just does not look as sharp as premade trays.
All the white minis are Reaper Bones. They are very flexible, but take paint well if unthinned for the basecoat. After that you can thin as usual. There are some topics on them here at the Inn.

These trays come in one size, but can be cut in half. They have kiss cuts that are easy to seperate with a blade.

I found a site that sells just the foam trays this morning! www.miniaturemarket.com - they sell them with the removable cubes and they cost half as much as the ones listed on amazon.com! I'm happy!

It is rather impressive.

I should put all my mini's in a battle scene and take some pictures. It is rather ridiculous to be honest.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.

If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Wich size are these? I can only find the various hights in the description (1'' to 4''), but of course it would be important to also know the width and length.
Have a look ;)

Miniaturemarket.com sells KR cases. KR also has its own website. They're relatively expensive xompared to Mantis though.
There's also Feldherr and Battlefoam, but those 2 are even more expensive.

So far, Mantis has turned out to be the best value money/storage wise. And I hear they will also offer carrying bags in the future. Starting company though, so patience :)
Keep cheking KS for their next project: Zombicide cases.

I had to email the guy place to find out the tray sizes... they are all 7.5" x 13". The trays they sell on the site are the customizable ones with the removable cubes, too... which is good cause the HQ minis are all different sizes.

The trays are too big for my custom box so i will see how they look after I have a go at cutting them down to size.
