Would you lend out your copy of HQ to a friend?

Depends on how responsible he is. My board has stayed at Beernut's place for like 2 years. It's only at my place now because I'm trying to get more games going with other groups...

I completely understand wanting to be a good friend, and it is great that he wants to show the game to others.
Let me tell a couple of stories, though:
1 - We had a friend in the military. He'd been a very good friend for over two years. He came back from overseas and
his car was about a week behind him. He needed to get around to pay bills and get things set back up being back in
the states. We lent him our car for the day. He caused an accident that totaled it.

2 - I was dating a girl my senior year in college for nearly 9 months. I lent her sister a very out of print D&D book so she
could practice drawing pictures out of it (her sister was an adult, as well...only two years younger than us). The girl broke
up with me before I could get the book back and I never saw it again.

Those were situations in which I trusted the people a pretty good amount.

I might suggest, in an effort to be a good friend and help out - print out the tiles from this site (chaoticprime has made
tiles for each room and hallway from the game board that are very good). Offer some non-HQ miniatures if you have
any (not sure what to suggest if you don't have any). Offer photocopies of the game books (with the provision that they
are returned to you so they can be destroyed afterward - copyright and all).
As for furniture - message me with an actual email, one which will let me send you some files...I'll hook you up there.
All of this might cost a bit in ink for the printing, but it would be a whole lot less than if something happened to your
game.

I think I found a happy medium -- I have enough game parts to lend him a complete basic set with all my "b-side" pieces.

This will save me the worry of thinking about my rare expansion parts, custom minis and the cream of the crop articles

Also, there's a chance that I might be able to make it to this game, so that's the best possible situation!

Sounds like a good compromise! I've got a 2nd base set that's currently residing with a friend who has played with his children.

I've also lost half a painted Skaven bloodbowl team due to lending to a friend at our gaming club, who then subsequently disappeared. That was several years ago, and I still have only half a team because I can't face buying and painting new models.

For every story like torilen's, there is one of these: For the past three years, my only box of HQ was being stashed at my buddy's house because that's where we get together for our D&D games and use pieces out of the box for it and also because I don't have the room for it at my place. I trusted him enough to let him keep it and thankfully, I've not lost anything from it. Last weekend when we moved into our own house, I got the box and all its contents back, and nothing was missing, and he was happy to have kept it for me all this time.

That said, it sounds like you've found a happy medium!

I once (10+ years ago) left my HQ box at a friends place.
4 of the KK stairs were lost.

I once (15+ years ago) left a limited Boba Fett SW:CCG box at a 'friends' place. He put some things on it (knowing that this would cause damage). And it did.

Since I collect DVDs since 1999, I have a good collection. I always fear that dreaded question: can I borrow one?
My pals would never ask me this. Why? 3 reasons: 1-they think the same as I do. 2-they have a lot of DVDs too. 3-If they really want to see a movie/series they don't have they buy it (or download it to check if they like it....and then buy it)

And still....I have been asked that question sometimes by others. Only 2 weeks ago by someone who is notorious for borrowing stuff for ages (I mean 1+ year). What do you do in such a situation?
Easy: just say that the DVD is an import and you'll need a region free player. Up till now this has worked every time.

To be fair: there are some DVDs I would lend out (the ones I'll never watch, are on my selling list (but no-one wants to buy them) and are in a box because I don't want them in the movieroom.......but no one wants those.

If you lend out DVDs you're gonna have a bad time:
Missing discs
Scratched discs
Missing covers?! How do you even manage that?

Worst part is if you discover a missing disc a long time after, you might not even remember who loaned it!

True, but some things will almost certainly never be released on BluRay and OOP on DVD.....so those are valuable.
