Good catch! I'm slowly getting to the other alternate questbooks, but I'll move it up higher on my tasklist!

I love the idea of alternate questbooks, and was actually working on something similar to redo the initial 14 quests before I found this thread.

I haven't counted the monsters, but I'm assuming you went for the same counts and distributions on monsters?

I'm switching things up a little bit further by adding in a couple of monster types, and switching up the composition. I'm removing all fimirs from all quests (becuase I just don't like them), and adding orc bigun's and wights as mid-level monsters to take the place of fimirs and many chaos warriors. On certain quests I went further by switching undead for greenskins or vice versa so that you got both greenskin themed quests and undead themed quests, and the monsters didn't seem so randomly thrown together.

I also have a second set of quests that I put together to completely replace the 14 initial quests, giving an alternate plotline but similar levels of difficulty. I guess having run through the game as Zargon a couple times already, I liked the idea of spicing it up for my next upcoming runthrough.

As I've been reading this board, I've certainly been considering it. I need to move everything from excel campaign templates into a another format for posting. Just downloaded heroscribe since that seems to be the tool of choice. (Or is HQGM the better place to build them? I downloaded both trying to figure out what tools are out there now after so long away from the game.)

EDIT: After considering what the best way to get started contributing was, I set up a flickr account and a new thread to start putting up WAAAGH! materials. (viewtopic.php?f=37&t=1117&p=11018#p11018). I decided here wasn't the appropriate place for that campaign. Once I convert that into postable formats, then I'll start looking at posting my standard campaign changes in this thread, although, as my previous post indicates, I did diverge from the boxed set a bit when it came to things like monster selection. (On second thought, maybe that should be it's own thread too, since this one really became the JoeC alt version thread instead of a community project, and I don't want to step on toes.)

Re: Alternate Questbooks?

Postby torilen » May 21st, 2012, 5:17 pm

So - I'm finally getting onto the alternate questbook wagon. I have quests 1-5 completed. I've included
them here.
Note that two of the quests include the need for new rules I've created - climbing and swimming. For those
who have seen these before, I've revised them and made them closer to the HQ style of gaming. Much easier
to use and remember. So, don't let it scare you off.

I've also included an expanded equipment, weapons, and armor list, and stated that this alternate book would
make use of my expanded spell groups. This is not necessary, as I'm attempting to keep actual mention of these
expansion from the questbook itself. So, don't let that scare you off, either...if you don't want to use those
expansions, you won't have to.

Enjoy. I'll keep working on this, and will post my other alternate quests as I get them done. I will post them
under separate downloads, to avoid the constant downloading issue my posts sometimes have.

Several years behind, but this is excellent! I love having alternate maps for players who've played through the quests before so they don't necessarily know where everything will be.
