Different US and UK sculpts?

Postby Kuromadoshi » November 14th, 2019, 6:00 pm

Hey guys, I just received my first two lots of miniatures. the first with orks and goblins (from UK) and the second with the rest, except for heroes & gargoyle (from US). while the bases seem to be the same size, they appear to be slightly different. Do you know anything about this?
PS. I just saw some pictures online and indeed it seems there is a small difference base styles.

Yes the UK has the more decorative bases while the NA are rounded.

yes, the only strange thing is why they changed to the US version but when releaseing the Barbarian and Elf Quest Packs, they come back to the Eur version of the base instead?

I've noticed this too. All EU versions have a little extra step to them while the US base are more smooth and rounded at the bottom. Oddly enough the quest packs that only came out in the US (Barbarian and Elf) have this "step" as well.

Maybe they liked the EU kind and wanted to show continuity? :)

I’m thinking the “step” was always intended but a bad mold was sent to the US at the start of production.

I'd say the change was deliberate, at least to some degree, because there's also another difference: The swords on some of my EU (German) models have rounded tips, whereas the American models seem to have far "sharper" weapons. I don't know whether this is also true for the other EU versions -- it does fit a tendency in the early 90s for German toys to be made "safer" in those cases were sharp points were included.

Early editions featured sharpen swords, then they added something to make it less dangerous. It was some kind of censorship I think.
I have several EUR versions with botjh sharped or rounded swords.

I have the full set of miniatures now (for the base game), but it's a mix and match of US and EUR versions. Maybe I'll do something to the bases to make them more uniform.
