Melar's Maze

I've played the quest many times before and I've always been baffled by note E. I always questioned the point of it as the route it creates is redundant. After glancing through it today, I decided to check out what the Brits have done. I grabbed my UK quest book and took a gander. As I suspected, the alternate route does not exist in the British Edition, making note E (A in the UK book) more sensible. There are also other differences between the two editions of course. Added treasure, and more furniture use and more monsters in the "Better" North American version.

I plan on combining the two versions next time I play however. Removing the alternate route and giving note E a purpose.

I would simply remove this door. It seems like that would make it the most simple.

However, if you truly wanted to be devious, keep the door, but make it a false door. That way, you get to sucker one of the Heroes into the pit trap. :D

That's what I was going to do until...

Now I have to go with that idea instead  [/maniacal laughter]

Blast! They were clever enough to search for the pit... but the false door did annoy them. Especially since they split up and the Elf and Dwarf who went into the room with the pit were a little ticked about having to go back around. It was great fun.

At least you tried!

I find it quite humorous when the player's huddle before a game and decide amongst themselves that they will search and search for traps. Inevitably, they get discouraged and forget to keep searching. Make a Zarggy want to 'remove' the first trap or two to keep them off-guard!!

Or throw in a few extra traps in areas they failed to search!

Played this quest today with a friend who finally started HeroQuest for the first time on Saturday. Totally hooked now! At any rate, instead of just a false door, this time I just said the hinges were ceased and the door just won't open. The Wizard was almost tempted to use the Genie... almost! ;)

This is up next for my Heroes. I plan on putting a creature on the trap because my players will think the space is safe, if the monster's on it...

And yeah, that door won't open when I run it.

I know this thread is quite old so please forgive me for being a Threadnomancer  but my players are about to do this quest and I wanted to say that making that a false door is a brilliant idea! I'll definitely be doing that. Also I thought I would like to share that while I like this quest, the way the parchment text reads it sounds much bigger than it is. So I decided to expand on it and make it much more like a maze. Plus my players wanted more of an RPG style game so I made it longer and with riddles. So here are the two additions, the first is more of an introduction to get you to the second part. For the second part I'm using a modified version of the Maze(the original first quest). Once they play through these, they will go to the actual Melar's Maze in the questbook

Enjoy!

Google makes the documents look all weird and messed up but you download it and have BigBene's macros and fonts installed it will look fine.

Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Just to clear things out: You make it sound like I made the fonts. I didn't they are not even part of my download package - I just edited the styles in my word template to use the Heroquest fonts, if installed. ;)
