Battleaxe worth it?

Postby Fullork345 » January 6th, 2013, 1:37 pm

Personally, since it prevents you from using a shield, I only see it worth it against stuff like ogres from the elf pack, or if you have borin's armor. What do you guys say?

I buy it often enough. Who needs high armor if you can kill stuff before it has a chance to hit you?
But seriously though. Even though monsters rarely defend, each die only has 50% chance to hit. That's very random, so the extra die helps tip the odds.

I dunno... It's hard to actually do math on this because of all the combinations of monsters-types and numbers.

It's a question of preferences I guess. Being a walking fortress with 5 defense dice isn't bad either :)

Until you've been drinking too much and ALL the rolls come up wrong - mostly shields for attacking mostly skulls for defending.

I like the battleaxe. Cut all the monsters to pieces before they get a chance to attack, and combined with chainmail and a helmet you can still have a decent defence

Well I had asked because my group played the first mission in kellers keep and I saw how near invulnerable the team was when they had armor/shield/helemnt. 5-6 dice defence seems pretty strong, granted we weren't doing elf or barb quests or any of the uk expansions.

Your suggestion that thequester's work be converted into an expanded table shall now bear fruit:

Code: Select all
Hero Attack Dice     1 AD |2 AD  2 AD  2 AD |3 AD  3 AD  3 AD  3 AD  3 AD |4 AD  4 AD  4 AD  4 AD
Hero Defend Dice     2 DD |2 DD  3 DD  4 DD |2 DD  3 DD  4 DD  5 DD  6 DD |2 DD  3 DD  4 DD  5 DD
Code: Select all
EU/NA Goblin .......  1.3 | 0.6 | 0.5 | 0.3 | 0.4 | 0.3 | 0.2 | 0.2 | 0.1 | 0.3 | 0.2 | 0.2 | 0.1

NA Chaos Warrior ... 17.5 | 7.3 | 6.0 | 4.8 | 4.3 | 3.5 | 2.9 | 2.3 | 1.8 | 3.0 | 2.4 | 2.0 | 1.6
NA Gargoyle ........ 20.9 | 8.4 | 6.9 | 5.6 | 4.8 | 3.9 | 3.2 | 2.6 | 2.0 | 3.3 | 2.7 | 2.2 | 1.7

Monster slaying cost is a little lower with a battle-axe combination over nearly all equivalent weapon-and-shield combinations when facing monsters tougher than a Zombie. That means the Hero will suffer a little less damage in the long run using a battle axe. Battle axe wins!

My old HQ group had a Kiss fan, so I gotta necro his fandom and say Gene Simmons knew his numbers and was the coolest Kiss member (as far as Kiss went). The Demon played...you guessed it...the Battle Axe.
