Sleep spell re-usable?
Posted: May 30th, 2011, 6:23 amWe noticed that the sleep spell does not have a "The spell is then discarded" line at the end, has anyone noticed this? Does it mean you could use it over and over?

Posted: May 30th, 2011, 7:01 amit's a good question... In my opinion, the sleep spell card's text is so long that the author can't put the tranditional "discard when use"... But I think you could just use once... But you can test the no limit sleep spell and tell us if it's well balanced...

The answer about whether or not it would be too powerful to be reusable depends on if you allow heroes to cut the throats of sleeping monsters? I usually do.

Posted: May 30th, 2011, 2:04 pmI'm pretty sure the rules will tell you somewhere that any spell card is discarded after use...that way you have to use it at only the right moment. We found the wizard is best played by the second most intelligent player, (since the most intelligent should be the DM) so that the right spell will be used at the right time.

I must agree, however, that the spell is meant to be used only once. I've found the small space given on
normal spell cards to be a problem when a spell description needs more space. More than likely, they
just didn't have space to place the note about discarding the spell on the card itself. That's probably why
they made sure to mention it in the rule book, as well.

Posted: June 1st, 2011, 3:45 pmI keep my set with the rulebook about 8 feet from my computer.
As for the NA ed., none of the spell cards of the main set mention discarding after use. You gotta read the rule book to know what to do. Perhaps the European edition(s) have the discard instruction on some of the spell cards?

Posted: June 2nd, 2011, 4:23 amSo long as it's anyone other than the wizard...according to the rules. The wizard (okok; or elf) just used his action turn casting the sleep spell.
It's up to the house rules to allow immediate neck slash or not. Worx for me, personally.

Otherwise, if the dwarf or barbarian are right there, they can kill the monster immediately.
I would say this should be no problem - no roll even needed - the creature is asleep and can't
move or defend or anything.
The only difference I would note is if the monster has a natural armor or has armor that is hard to
get into (from the evil wizard's point of view, of course...like maybe a dragon or the chaos warrior
or something). I would say there would be some sort of roll needed here, just to break through the
natural armor.
Hope that makes sense...I'm pretty tired right now.
