Are chests always visible?

I got a question that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere.
Are chests visible once you go into a room, or only after you search for treasure?
And (while I'm on the topic) if NOT, does disarming, searching for or triggering a furniture 'trap' reveal the chest automatically?
I'm wondering this because the quests don't really say that it's hidden, they just say "first person who searches for treasure will find *blank* inside the chest. And its hard NOT to notice a giant treasure chest in the middle of the room.
I hope I'm clear enough with my question. If you need me to be more specific on a certain part, let me know.

Chests are always visible. Cant remember official rules offhand, but we always have to be next to chest to open it, and to disarm any traps on the chest. Any treasure searches in room, only apply to room in general. Hope that helps.

According to the rules (paraphrased):

"Any Treasure Search in a room includes the entirety of the room. This includes chests, furniture, floor, ceiling, etc."

A lot of people play to where you must specify 'what' you are searching; i.e. Chest, table, bookcase, etc. (Personally, I believe that it would make the Quest(s) take even longer, but to each their own.)

It seems to me, that the chests are a good distraction for newbies. They see a Treasure Chest and IMMEDIATELY want to search for treasure, disregarding the fact that it may also be trapped! I've used this method a time or two, myself. Also, a lot of times, the chest may be empty, forcing the hero to draw from the treasure deck; and you never know what you're going to get there... :)

I should also mention that there have been many lengthy discussion to condense the searching of a room. Instead of 1) searching for traps; 2) searching for secret doors; 3) searching for treasure; they simply make it a single search (it assumes that the Hero in question is not a single-minded dolt who can only perform one search at a time).

Arguably, this would definitely speed up the process of adventuring; but I do not use this alternate rule. We use the one-at-a-time methodology.

UK Rules, page 12, and I Quote; Searching. "Characters may always search instead of making a move or casting a spell. The search can be made before or after moving. Characters may not search if they are next to a monster or if there is a monster in the same room or visible in a passage. Monsters never search. A whole room or visible squares of a passage may be searched in one turn. Players must tell the Evil Wizard what they are looking for. They may search for either secret doors AND traps, or treasure". Seems pretty straight forward for us in UK. Wonder why the US rules are different. I seem to remember seeing those UK rules somewhere on this site for downloading ?

This is a really great site!!! However, they are not remakes, they are hi-res scans of the original books, etc.

Well, I guess "remake" wasn't the word I was looking for anyway. It just looks TOO good to be real.
To me it looks like someone scanned the original book and "touched it up" afterwards.
I even skimmed through the PDF and everything was perfectly aligned and almost everything that was on every page (ie. page numbers) were perfectly lined up and in the same spot when I turned through the pages really quick.
I'm just saying, either they were touched up after they were scanned, or they were "pros" with the scanner.
Either way, yes that is a great site, but this one is better, lol.
