Hello again, another poll for how other people rule

Searching chests is a standard treasure search as far as I am aware and can be done just by being anywhere in the room. It puzzles me then why one of the main quests has a chest in the corner surrounded by pit traps that are not very likely to be sprung.

Does any one rule that you open chests like doors and you end your move next to them?
