LoS vs What you can 'see'

Is there a difference here? For some reason I'm getting confused. Say all the heroes are in a room with a few monsters. Say the wizard is right behind the barb and therefore doesn't have LoS to any monsters in order to cast a spell. Does this also mean that he can't see any of the monsters as well?

There's two LOS.
The LOS for setting up the room (you set up everything, even if you technically can't see it)
and the LOS for shooting, where you need an ubostructed line between two fields, no models standing in the way.
By the way, here in the forums a much liked way to give the wizard a small push, is to allow him to ignore other models when determining LOS for his wizardry, along with some other stuff

Agreed, depending on spell that is.

Yes, I also agree: the wizard don't need to be in line with the miniature he wants to cast a spell on! Also if you check the box cover, he's casting a pell in the air to bypass other enemyes (a lob?)

This is actually an official rule.
"Spells can be cast at monsters or characters provided they are visible to the spell-caster. Models in the same room as the spell-caster are always visible. Models in passages or in a different rooms are only visible if you can trace an unobstructed straight line from the spell-caster to the target."

Wait, is that true? I thought you had to have LoS of a monster or hero to cast a spell on them based on what you can 'see' as described in the rule book.

Yes, it is, for the EU rules of play. They changed it for the NA version, which you are probably familiar with.
Zargon only knows why they broke the spell system after improving on so much.
Rules for spell casting and the spell cards themselves are broken in the NA version.

Fire Of Wrath and Genie are anywhere on the board as well in the EU rules. I don't know why they changed that either although those are spell specific rather than a general rule change.
They also made Fire Of Wrath and Ball Of Flame twice as easy to defend against (unless it's actually supposed to be either shield defends against them in the EU rules, still not sure about that), the non-healing sets needed a buff if anything. US Fire Of Mild Irritation is just a weak Ball Of Flame.
