Genie air spell use

How do you folks play the genie card? We have encountered a disgreement as to how to attack with 5 combat dice. The card says attack any monster in your line of sight. Some players think that the attacking hero need s to be adjacent to the monster and others hold that the hero only needs an unobstructed view to use the 5 dice. What say you?!?!?

It is a ranged spell. LOS is all that is needed.

Now I would rule that it could be cast at any 'known monster' in the dungeon. If the hero has seen the monster, he can send the Genie after the monster. (now this is in the realm of house rules)

I always played any monster in same room or corridor. Disregarding a fellow Hero or monster standing in the line of sight.

If UK rules... Anywhere on the board. If US rules... LOS! it's that simple!!!

I don't see how you would even get to the conclusion that the hero must be adjacent. That's weird.
Both NA and UK 2nd edition card texts are very clear in my opinion. What mitchiemasha said.

Always play it line of sight. Not sure why the caster would have to be adjacent unless your card says that and everyone else doesn't :? .

My wife, who plays the Wizard, agrees line of sight. Why bring the hero right next to the monster you are going to fight, especially with the Wizard, because it would defeat the entire purpose of not getting the Wizard killed.

My version is not true to the rules. It is more of a house rule. The Genie would be capable of scouring the room and attacking which ever the Wizard preferred. I would not do the anywhere on the board as the Wizard would have no way to know the Genie is actually doing his "bidding" if he cannot see him.

Thanks for replies very helpful! On a side note we have also tried nerfing the wizard in the following way: he may cast a spell twice per quest if he rolls a combat die. Skull = recast spell and lose 1 mind point. White shield = recast spell lose 0 mind points. Black shield = -1 mind point and no recast.

That mild buff is worth about 2-3 bonus spells that could easily be incorporated into an Artifact Card. How do you track the spells in this recasting?

I used to use the Genie spell like normal but it got boring so I tweaked it up by ruling that casting it simply caused a small Genie to appear and would grant the Wizard a wish. I limited the wish and never had a problem with it getting out of hand and it made the Wizard much more enjoyable and flexible.
