Not at all !
I've started collecting DF with 680€ on ebay.co.uk in 2006 and I got a special package of a dozen of sets from a seller which was closing. (each one different so it was great to start !)
It was money I saved for modular 3D furniture I wanted for a long time.
Then I've bought for 430€ more some months later the sets I've missed from the american company dwarven forge.
Then they did on those last years 2 sets per year to finally slow down the production to one set per year so the costs were lower and lower to me to "update" my collection.
To give you a idea, last set cost was 110€ including douane and postage & package.
On the 2010 year 110€ it's a reasonable investisment isn't it ?

At the same time, Lord did some great lava sets (100€ each) that I bought and also Morgar (psmominiatures) who already made his 4 own modular sets. (50€ each !)
Since I've been working from 04h00 to 13h30 on the docks for 3 years, 6 days on 7, I think it was a good thing to waste (or invest) in things I really wanted & deserved.

When you add everything, it's a huge amount but if you lay it on 5 years, if you count the fact I've mostly stopped going to the cinema (12€ the entrance in 3D, 9€ without 3D) stopped going into restaurants, mc do quick kfc pizza huts etc I saved a lot of money each year !

When you see some people wasting money in paints, new boardgames, printing cartouches & buying floortiles in cardboard, buying hist arts & plaster or resin, they are wasting money. I did that years after years until the day I've realized what I've missed. You can easily play with 2 or 3 sets and it are few bucks. Just save what you can some months to reach the 7 skies.

Ok there is a problem for storage if you do not have a gameroom to store everything.
I encountered also this problem for years stocking everything in my room, under my bed, on my shelves and even into the corridor and the garage ... until the day it was finally ok.
Just be patient, it always paid.

Save 20 bucks (one mc do here) each month for 5 years and your dream will come true.
2nd choice : save 50€ and you have one set from Morgar : http://psomminiature.com/index.html
Ok it's only one room but month after month you can have something huge !
There's no tiny save as we say in french.
Next time I'll show you something more interesting ... and no it aren't mines even if I'm still not decided yet :

I wish I was able to play a lot more...this has given me some good ideas.
For those who have some spare time (I know...who does, right)...and at least a little bit of skill...
you can buy a nice block of clay - at least around where I live - for $10-$20 US. And...to be honest,
that first piece you show here...with the lava and such...it would only take about 4 or 5 hours to form
the clay into those various pieces, and another 4 or 5 hours to paint. And look how cheap it would be.

Might not even take that long.

Just a thought.
