Darkcity - Geomorphic city tiles

Postby Maike05 » January 7th, 2014, 6:59 pm

Hi guys, it's been a while that I'm on this project, I finally got the right texture in order to represent the City!

Let me introduce to you a geomorphic system that will allow you to easily and quickly represent a whole City and its dirty streets !

This is a WIP.

I'd like to create a bunch of 1x1 tiles representing NPCs and many other tiles for furnitures. I'll also create some extra overlays for a temple, alchemist shop, school of magic, tavern, and pretty everything you can think of :D

Any critics/comments/suggestions are welcome ! :) Hope you like it as much as I do !

Really good stuff. I can't complain about the textures this time, either. I think you should add more contrast to the shadows, but that's it for my criticism.

Nice work! But if you want these to connect better (streets) you need to make them 9x9 instead of 8x8. When you rotate some of these and place then next to eachother, some roads become dead ends now. This isn't necessarily a problem, as you could place a door there, but still, geomorphic implies you can endlessly connect tiles to for a giant continuous dungeon, whereas these might result in a setup with roads not connecting, and thus creating a map with multiple seperate roads, only connected though buildings if you place doors there.

Yep indeed, but I assume the DM does not place the tiles at random and chooses a layout that is coherent :)
Concerning making tiles 9x9, this not compatible with regular A4 paper sheets. 2,5cm * 8 = 20cm which is the limit :)

There have been several inns and taverns posted on here...even by you, maike05.
I think this big inn that you posted here is in the top 3 I've seen, if not the best,
in my humble opinion. That is great work.

Quick update :

Red Dragon Inn - Upstairs
Image

I hesitated doing different styles of rooms : paysan, marchand and noble, but I went for small paysan rooms with at the center a salon much like those inns in Baldur's Gates :) Maybe I'll make a third inn with noble chambers.

I still have to do the Cellars for Red Dragon Inn and the one for the Prancing Dragon Pub (the small one).
