Modular Gameboard v. 2

Postby Daria » September 18th, 2012, 7:44 pm

Okay, so after playtesting my last gameboard I decided it was time to drop the foamcore and upgrade to Hirst Arts. This is the (unpainted) result. I'm two rooms shy of completion, but I'm hand carving tiles so it's a slow process.

Gratz, it looks fantastic! in my opinion don’t change anything, the current colors looks like marble... I wouldn’t paint it at all.

good f------ lord...that is bad a--.
And holy crap, you're making those by hand at that...I thought I had a lot of free time.
Of course...if I ever made anything like that, it would be by hand, as well, using clay.

And I have to agree...I wouldn't paint it. Looks kinda nice like that.

Looks incredible. Can it really be true there are no way around half-tiles?
Are the doors just "resting" on the walls?

Well each tile is casted from Hirst molds, what I meant "by hand" is that I've carved most of the floor cracks with an exacto knife to match the official board. Like the room with the basket weave thatching is a sonnuvabitch.

Goblin-King:
Initially the corridor pieces were all full tiles, but then they didn't line up properly with the rooms. The only fix I found was to include half tiles at the corners and t-junctions. The only other way to do it is to eliminate the walls, but I didn't like the look of that.

And yes, the doors just sit on the walls. In playtesting they seem to stay there fine, but we're considering priming the board with a metallic base paint that magnets stick to.

You COULD cut 1/4 of the tiles along the walls. That way all passages and rooms would also match the board.
How wide are the tiles anyway? 1'' or 1½''?

The walls would all be ½'' wide. The doors would stand as good as on some of the walls on your current board. Especially with your magnet scheme.
Another option would be to just make the walls ground level and white (like on the original board).

That being said, I totally understand you not wanting to do this (asspain indeed)

I've just always wanted to see a hirst-art style HQ board with 100% correct layout... everyone always makes small changes :?
