The City of Heroes !

Postby Maike05 » January 3rd, 2012, 7:25 pm

Hi guys, as you now I'm a tileset factory on my own :D The other day I had a wonderful idea when looking at the Heroquest board : Why not creating some overlays for the rooms to create a city ?

My idea is simple, I will create several overlays that will fit the four sections of rooms of the board, plus replacing the center room as a market place. In addition, I'll make single overlay for only one room (alchemist shop, armory, tavern, temple, etc) I will also create a lot of single tokens to represent house furnitures, town folks, horses, market shops, well, sewer entrance, etc.

Here is a few quick shots :

This gives you the general idea!

Example of the alchemist shop!

A quick try on a market place, note the well, the sewer entrance, boxes, barrels, tree.

i think the tavern should have a big layout like this. You may notice the latrine on the right bottom corner ;)

Finally, I think, we could create something like the rocks tiles to block the passages. I though about a shop in the market place, a city guard (maybe a Chaos warrior !), some crates or barrels... Let me know if you think of something else !

I think this will interest people who have created a set of house rules to improve Heroquest in something more advance as Dungeon and dragon, like me :D. This way, you will be able to play quest in cities and set a different kind of gameplay : intrigue, enquiries, stealing things in closed houses, etc !!

I hope some of you are interested ! ;)

I love it - I've always wanted an open town square tile
To cover the map's center room with.

That would be so much quicker for me. Ive done outside settings and bassically spent a lot of time on getting terrain pieces. It looked cool but it turned the enjoyment of the game into a stress sometimes. I would have to much to prepare and I was running out of days before game night. I like it.

Odd how great minds think alike. lately I have been thinking about how I would use the board for a small village and how I would set it up...
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

Well, I started to write a campaing long ago, where the heroes must explore an ancient ruined city to find the entrance to the witch lord's dungeon. The city consisted of four quartes, each one gameboard. I found the original board very fitting to represent this. The neutral grey tiles of the central room are perfect to represent a market place etc.
Have a look ;)
