I like those 2-D Mummy bases--very nice! Your call, but I'd put a little more dramatic light/dark contrast on the fireplace logs closest to the cardboard fire. Regardless, it is always a pleasure to see furniture painted up.

I've finally taken some time to paint some of my Heroes! Whee!

I wanted them to look at least marginally like these, but the detail on those are impossible. But I think I did a decent job. Not as good as I wanted them to be, but I just lack the skill that Mophus has.
Sorry for the crappy shots, they were made with my Blackberry. I'll post better ones as soon as I finish my Wizard :)

UPDATE!!!

Wizard is finished, so I made a new, better picture as promised :)

Image Image

I gave them coloured rims on the base, because I'm planning on giving the mercenary men-at-arms similar rims as well, (1 set of men-at-arms of each colour) so players won't confuse their mercenaries in the game. ;)

Beautiful painting. The Dwarf is fantastic and the Wizard's clothing too, especially his cape. It's wonderfully shaded.

Nice paint jobs yet again. the dwarf especially, the steely eyes you've achieved couldn't be done any better I think.

The Wizard has a bit of an Eddie Izzard look about him, anyone else see it?

Man, I can't believe you managed those eyes without a magnifying glass. Even then, the amount of paint to put on...

Even better than color coding the entire base. The color is clear enough.
And great job, there.
The color scheme for the dwarf is one of the most beautiful I've seen.

Re: Sjeng's miniatures

Postby Sjeng » August 16th, 2012, 4:39 pm

Thanks! I used Mophus's paint jobs as inspiration, simply because his mini's are amazing. Such detail.

For the dwarf I used chainmail for the chainmail :P drybrushed it on, Then I drybrushed the beard white. I painted the eyes white, then with black I painted the pupils and the outlines. Then I used dwarven flesh on the skin very carefully.
Then I used goblin green for the shirt, with snot green as highlights. The shoulder pads and helmet are tin bitz and gold rims. Red and green for the jems, also blue.
Brown (dark) for the boots and belt, and lighter brown for the gloves. Graveyard earth for highlights.
Boltgun metal for the axe and beard rings, with chainmail silver for the accents. Gold and dwarven broze on the axe handle. brown for the wooden parts. More tin bitz and gold rims on the axe pattern.

Anyone have a tip for making the glass orb on the wizard's staff shiny? I might need to find some shiny varnish to paint on lightly. I usually spray varnish on that's matte.

More finished mini's! Although I haven't gotten any nice daylight pictures, these will have to do for now (with and without flash)

My remaining 3 zombies:

And my Mantic Dwarves (5 ironclads converted into shieldbreakers):

I'm going to use these as mercenaries for my heroes in HeroQuest. These will be the dwarven equivalent to the Halberdiers (or perhaps swordsmen). The regular ironclad dwarves have shields + 1-handed weapons, and they will be the scouts. Finally I have some dwarven crossbowmen and riflemen, who will obviously be the crossbow mercenaries.
I painted them in different colours so it's easier to see which mercenarie belongs to which Hero. As you can see in my previous posts, my Heroes have coloured edges on their bases. ;)
