It occurs to me that you went from perfectly-serviceable tabletop standard, to miniature works of art. The older paint jobs that you weren't happy with seem great to me!

I think many of us read White Dwarf as a kid and wanted to emulate 'Eavy Metal. Now I don't have the time or patience, but can certainly respect artisans like yourself who do! I especially like the fidelity to the dwarf's card art... While you could look up the original art online if you wanted a version with more contrast, there's something to be said for going with the official version, apparent printing errors be damned!

Zombies finished....which means undead models are all done!

Here they are from 2020:

And here they are now:

Now on to the Greenskins! Thankfully I already have the Goblins basecoated, so that shouldn't take me more than a week or two to finish.

Thanks! The zombies are in my opinion the hardest thing to paint in the base game set. They have a lot of small details but not a lot of actual definition on the model. Painting the skin was brutal.

And here are the finished Goblins, I'm not happy with the swords really but I think I'll move on, the axes are nice though.

I dread doing the Orc batch paint, so I'm undecided as to whether I'll do the Chaos Warriors, Sorcerer, or Gargoyle next

Yeah I decided to rust up the weapons, I didn't like the lack of contrast. Having rusty weapons makes the skin pop a bit more and also thematically makes more sense for the goblins to scavenge their weapons or get the shitty hand me downs from their orc superiors.

Decided on painting the Chaos Warriors (and base coating the Gargoyle since he's just red and gold). Here's a little progress image of their basecoating with a little sneaky gargoyle in the back.

And here is everything so far, wanted a nice group shot to renew my resolve.

That's a good frame of minis. I'm waiting to see the Chaos guys painted too.
In particular i like the off-white you used for the wizard's shirt.

Thanks! The off-white is my attempt at painting the Wizard as he appears on the card art. It's sort of a yellow-white cream color and my mixture came pretty close, just not as yellow.

I have these old Dungeonquest plastics and considered using the guy on the left as Sir Ragnar, but the scale is slightly off and Ragnar isn't allowed to attack. I like that his arm is pressed against him though so it looks like he's slightly injured. I also like the two models on the right as Chaos Warrior proxies for any of the elite named ones in the quests. But I already have a Battlemasters Chaos Warrior that I will probably use for that. Maybe the model on the right can be used for the Chaos Warrior wielding Orcs Bane. Thoughts on any of these finding use as models in HQ?

EDIT

Here's the idea around Ragnar. I could cut off the sword and clean up the area around the hand. Paint the glove ends as metal cuffs and the hand part of the glove as flesh then attach a chain to both cuffs (either a real chain scale appropriate or a chain bit from another model if I can find a good one from my bits). This COULD work for Ragnar, what do you think?
