Thanks a lot, guys! :)

This is still very early days, I have only managed to block in the base colours and add the first pass of a brown wash. but this should make it easier to make sense of the model:

Yet the base colours take most of the time so it should be quick now. :)
Looks good already. I'd like a part list if you can give me that?

Cheers Anderas! :)

The model is actually mostly based on an old Citadel/GW Dark Elf Warlock that I still had in my bitzbox. This one here:

Image

The model is from the late-to-mid-90s, if I am not mistaken, and still has that certain old skool clunkiness and single part aesthetics that work for HeroQuest -- oh, and the model was already in a very sorry state, missing its head, right hand and staff by the time I got it, so it's not like I actually messed up a classic model ;)

The head came from the - still available - current GW plastic Skeletons, with horns from the plastic WFB Chaos Marauders. The left hand is from the Empire Flagellants, while the right hand and staff were spliced together from an old Skeleton standard bearer arm (for the staff), a bird skull from the GW Skulls kit and some horns and teeth from a plastic Bloodletter (fr the top). Hope this helps! :)

Still not quite finished, but we are getting there:

As always, let me know what you think! :)

That is a thing of beauty. Well horror, but you know what I mean. I absolutely love seeing conversion work like this, very creative and executed very well.
My only gripe is the left hand. If you had to add a new hand anyway, why not add a skeletal hand? Especially as the right hand sounds as if it's fleshless (difficult to tell from the photo).

Thanks a lot, Pancho!

Don't get me started on the hands, though -- they were certainly a bit of a compromise. The skeleton standard hand just had the right angle, so it was a keeper, but I didn't have a left hand that matched its design. At the same time, the Witch Lord's hands in the Les Edwards piece are thin and clawlike, but clearly not skeletal. In the end, I ended up choosing a hand that worked when it came to the pose and size and painted both hands in pale skin tones to make the difference a bit less obvious -- but yeah, it's certainly one of the model's rough areas.

So, only one or two final touchups, and then I think we can call the model done:

I *think* I might be inclined to perhaps use it in my game if I had it ...

Ah, you're right about the WL's hands in the artwork. Withered, but not skeletal. I really liked the pose of the hand that you used, and now I know it has the right feel I like it even more.

This is one of my favourite threads at the moment. Looking forward to seeing more.
