Ok, I might go out and buy some paints today. Other than the basic colors suggested earlier.mis there anything special I will need for dry brushing and washing? I though about using the minwax technic instead of washing but I don't think I will be able to remove if I don't like it so I don't think I will do it that way.

Well just got back from the hobby store. It started out well picking out your basic base colors then I got overwhelmed by the sea of colors and just started grabbing things. It was about $45 these dozen paints. I'm sure I will need more colors but hopefully I can get a good start with these.

I wish you fun. Never forget that you can lighten up any color with any lighter color. Analogous for darkening. Just keep lights and darks of the base color in the same ballpark.
For example, you can lighten your red with light greyish green and darken it with dark greyish green. Doesn't have to be white or black.

You can make your own washes with regular paints and medium.
Use Lahmian Medium for the Citadels, Glaze Medium for Vallejos, and Acrylic Medium or just plain water for the Reapers.
The paint thinned this way should be very dilute but still retain its strength.
Doing this over instead of using regular washes (shades, inks) will also help to avoid glossy shadow areas.

Any questions, shoot.

You don't paint skeletons or mummies white. I never use pure white for anything except glowing eyes.
I drybrush skeletons from a dark olive drab or brown color in at least 6 highlight steps to a bone color like Ushabti Bone from Citadel.
Maybe a step further to Army Painter Skeleton Bone or something like that.
Start with the darkest color you want between the ribs and slowly drybrush color steps. Make the brushstrokes weaker with every step until you feel it's light enough.
Then touch up the lightest details with the lightest color. It's not going to be pure white, I hope.

quick and easy skellies

basecoat - ushabti bone
wash (heavy) - agrax earthsade
dry brush -ushabti bone
extra raised highlights - screaming skull

and you'll get this sort of result

Image
if you prefer a dirtier older look to the bone follow the above steps but add an additional thin wash of seraphim sepia at the end to get results like this
