Miniature Design Changes (for Kickstater)

Postby chaoticprime » June 19th, 2013, 12:59 am

Heroes suggestion #1: Optional Shield Bits for Barbarians, Elves and Dwarfs.

Discussion Points:
"That would require alternate poses for male Barbarian and female Elf."
"What types of shields would there be; size, shape and design-wise?"
"Would this be, at all, necessary?"

I don't think they necessarily need shields. Based on how my groups have always played, the Barbarian definitely doesn't need one (ever), and the Dwarf could go either way.

The AHQ Dwarf mini has a round shield, and it looks really neat in my opinion (but he is striking a much more jaunty pose, and was designed with shield in mind). I do think the Elf would look good with a round buckler on his off arm though.

I was thinking of shields in a way like the mercenaries were made.
If you can make a small hole in the arms of the hero models, in a way it isn't too obvious, you can pin in shields of various shapes.

I was going to suggest the same thing - make a hole so that a shield could be pinned.

Honestly...here's a thought. Could the mini's be made with a very generic stance, and have
a "grip" available for varied weapons and/or shield, and the pieces could be included. I know
that would requires several small pieces that could get lost (like the rats and candle sticks always
do) - but it would offer a lot of variability for players and their characters.

Here's an idea.
For each hero three seperate minis in developing states.
Like these minis from Fenryll.
Take a gander: http://www.shop.battlefield-berlin.de/index.php/katalog/showarticles/21000-1-dreistufen_charaktere.html

Might get too expensive, but it's a possibility.

Alternate hands is usually my MO for weapon variants.

That's probably the best solution.

While those minis are not my favorite, I LOVE the concept.
Would be genius for a level based rpg. at level 3 you get the next stage and at 7 you get the final stage.

I first saw that concept used with the Citadel AD&D adventurers range. http://www.solegends.com/citadd1/
