Yes, I didn't mention it, but those teeth on the skels...EXCELLENT! I gotta ask how you did them!
And did you use a magnifying glass??

Thanks! I don't use a magnifying glass although I plan to buy one when I sell some more miniatures.

The way I did them is this: Basically I painted the whole area white with very very thin layers not to ruin the details. Then I used a black ink (should have used brown but I don't have one) to catch the lines between the teeth. Then with great care I highlighed each teeth one by one.
On their left side of their mouth the teeth aren't so obvious so I had to paint them myself leaving black space between them.

holy *lemony goodness* that's amazing.

Well, I went to an electronix store, and happened across a small set up - heavy base, with allogator clips on an extended bar, and above that a simple magnifying glass on a ball swivel - $12 CAD.

so if yor in Europe that will probably run around 12 Euros and in the states: $6.
You need your own bright light source for this one.

I think I'll go for one with built in light. I don't have a desk lamp that I desperately need so I think I should take a two-in-one thing that will not overcrowd my desk.

I'd like to ask if you have already sold them and what price you got (sorry if you have already posted this info, did't see it). To my experience (as a buyer only so far...) I'd say painted minis actually earn lower prices than unpainted ones, and that painted ones are often hard to sell. People like to paint themselfes... But it may be another case with figures painted as masterfully as your's. Well, in any case, could you tell us the end price?

Thanx,

Ben

Yes I sold them, $15 each was the starting price, it took 3-4 week-long auctions but eventually they sold at that price. You just have to wait for that person who might see the auction and decides to buy them. I just had a bid on this auction http://www.ebay.com/itm/280875729306?ss ... 661wt_1185 after at least 7 unsuccessfull attempts to sell it. Of course if it weren't for free listing in ebay.com I could never do that!

Big Bene wrote:I'd say painted minis actually earn lower prices than unpainted ones, and that painted ones are often hard to sell.

This is true but only in rare ones. It also depends on the paintjob. An unpainted hero can sell $5 (anyone paying more than that should do a better market research). But a hero with a nice paintjob can go up to $15, possibly more for a paintjob better than mine. Obviously a terrible paintjob sells for lower than $5. But sometimes I find great deals for horribly painted figures that is worth buying them cause after removing the paint, the value becomes greater.
A wizard of morcar on the other hand sells unpainted for around $20, I doubt anyone would give more than 30$ for any kind of paintjob.
I once sold a nicely painted orc shaman for $25 but the guy who bought it told me he would give the same ammount for an unpainted one, he was after the figure because of its rarity.

Big Bene wrote:People like to paint themselfes...

This is almost always true, but there are some cases (to which I'm targeting) that a person wants their set painted but don't have time/skill to do it themselves. They want it for their kids or themselves and because of lack of free time their are willing to buy painted ones.
So to this type of buyers, a nicely painted one is valued much higher than bare plastic.

Personally, I want my whole set to be painted by me, I wouldn't pay a single Euro (soon to be drachma in Greece again :D ) for someone to paint mine. Even for cool-mini-or-not level of paintjob. But I totally respect when others do it, so when I'm being paid to paint something, I give 100% to paint it as best as I can.
The fimirs and skeletons in this topic are by far the best ones I've ever painted because they are for someone who pays good money for them. Probably when I paint my own set they won't look as good as those.

If I was the type who had money I would very much prefer painted mini's.
My mini's get painted eventually but I burn out on the work. It isn't a hobby of mine. When I see the minis that are painted by those with the artistic touch and the love of the work I am rather impressed.
If I had the cash I would have all painted minis and none of them would be painted by me.
:)

Reminds me I need to dig out the paints and get back to work...

That is one excellent painted goblin! I really think you are improving. The blending on the skin is really good :-)
(only 9 more goblins to go!)
