Released on February 15, 2010 in the USA, this second box can complete D&D Castle Ravenloft or can be played as a seperate game.
Image
42 figurines, new modular board elements, 200 cards + thousand of tokens, no GM, apparition of the doors, gold & gear to buy between quests, yep it is better and starts to make this serial more interesting !

For those who aren't interested into this mecanic without GM can review their point of view about the price and 42 figurines of D&D (not painted but 42 !!!) to add to other games ...

Well done drathe !
Choose Ashardalon first since there are doors, the possiblity to buy treasure/gear between quests & villager objectives etc.

how does it work without a game master? I'm curious to see how they make the system. Is it totaly randomly generated or are they some quests maps like in HQ or descent? else the miniatures look great (except the snake, I'm snakophobe, so I will not buy the game- it's stupid, but I can't even see a snake in pictures !)

Around $1 per mini is insanely cheap.

Just mail me your snakes, I'll give them a nice home. I could use some more snakes. ;)

How does it works ?

1 [hero phase] you move and or attack, open doors, disarm traps, heals etc
2 [exploration phase] Did you have finished your turn on a unexplored edge of the tile ?
no : draw a encounter card and follow the instructions. (can be a trap, a wandering monster, a environment etc)
yes : then draw a new tile of the deck, place it correctly & draw a new monster card in front of you. Place it on the bone pile of this tile. if you have a black arrow on the new tile, you draw a encounter card and you follow the terrible news ...
3 monster phase : move the mobs by order you drawed it & one by one.
Each mob has a special matrix :
Image
You cannot have the same monster twice. (there are 10 different x3 + some bosses)
When you move for instance your squeleton, you also move all other squeletons on the board ... so it can be dangerous to get several mobs of the same race !

The objective are to destroy a monster, escape, search for a prisoneer, get some treasures etc.
I used the same mecanic to make the rules of DOOM solo mode and SPACE CRUSADE solo modes too. (and now HeroQuest !)

can't wait to see the entire rule system finished !
It's a very great system of solo rule, and exit the game master !
