Sharing my first custom sidequest for AHQ

Yesterday I playtested my first custom sidequest for AHQ with some friends. It was a part of our Shattered Amulet campaign, replacing 1 of the random generated dungeons.
It's a fully custom tileset made with the Inkarnate Fantasy map creation tool. So all these graphics are not really mine. I just paint the ground textures and paste the props where I want them.
Still, it took me quite some time to complete. The story itself is very simple and can be added to pretty much any campaign. Or you can play it as a standalone mission.

Below some screenshots of our session of last night.

You can download all the tiles and the Quest info page on my Google Drive.

Here's also a little preview of my next sidequest I'm working on. I'm currently using the inn tiles for the Between Expeditions phase.
Nothing wrong with a bit of roleplaying. ;)
The heroes had some Henchmen visiting looking to join the party after they heard of their previous victories.

More stuff coming in the future ...

This is really cool. I've been experimenting with using the loke books of battlemats instead of tile placing. I still roll to see how many doors are present etc and as they are dry erase, I can make a room larger on the fly if it seems like a better use of space.

I've also been using a custom Ruleset I created for overland adventuring between quests. It's a simple form of a hexcrawl with each terrain type having a different movement speed, likelihood of Monsters etc.

I've been really enjoying using 12x12 or 24x12 size maps for the final quest room. The loke mats have so many options and using the baked in environmental obstacle to obscure line of sight etc definitely makes combat more dynamic and having additional space makes both ranged enemies and heroes more viable and interesting.

Ive also been play testing my own rules for placing enemies and heroes after surprise. It favours randomness as it has produced the most interesting results that I personally enjoy. Essentially whoever loses surprise is randomly placed and if the Hero has been surprised the enemies are placed using the one on one rule. There are some more specific rules and edge cases I'm testing but still ironing out the kinks.

Hopefully if I get enough time I'll post the pdfs once I'm happy with where they're at so they can have some additional play testing.

A few pictures of the 2nd sidequest I'm working on. Turned out a bit big. Will be making 2 quests for this one.
I'll share the tiles / quests as soon as we playtested it all. This might take a while though.
Also tried adding all the furniture I had laying around :) Never enough furniture!

I'm digging these. The tile art is pretty great, nicely done. I went ahead and downloaded the first Side Quest... I'll be converting it to the HQ remake, so a few changes and a little rewriting will be needed, but it's all intuitive.

Thanks for the resources.

Looks amazing as usual. I've been out of action for a few weeks with illness and crazy work schedule but hoping to get some game time in this weekend. Keep up the great work!

Glad you like them! Yes , these tiles can be used in pretty much every RPG game. I'd love to see some pictures of your version in HQ remake by the way. ;)

Thanks mate, been a crazy couple of weeks but on top of life again. I've also been down a bit of a ttrpg rabbit hole recently which has taken some time away from dungeon crawling but I think I'm ready to dip my toes in again. Trying to get a group together to play online so I'm trying to learn how to use Roll20 and see if there's an easy way to play a modified version of AHQ that suits that format. Playing solo has been fun but I would really like to play test some more of these rules and get some direct feedback in the process.

fantastic job, looks fantastic. for me this was always what drew me in with AHQ. we had something similar with the settlements and generated them similar to a quest. with options to find new quests from the locations. added a whole new dynamic to playing as does this. great job!
