Mophus' Advanced Heroquest

[Mophus]

After completing the collection of all miniatures shown in AHQ related publications, its time to paint the stuff. I've the elf and a few other minis almost finished, but the lack of suitable bases slowed down my motivation.I don't like my HQ Milliput bases anymore, because I changed from cobblestone boardtiles (HQ Modular) to the standard HQ ones (30mm custom board). Additionally the old bases are to bulky.

Whereas I hate to left a painted miniature without a base, I made new one especially for AHQ. I think I will use them for HQ, too. I've not yet decided how to paint them. I like the yellow-brown for AHQ, but this wouldn't suit to HQ, because I'm going to use both miniature sets together.

With those new bases and your painting skills, these figs promise to be a treat. Will you play with these figures in games, or is collecting enough? If you will play the adventures, do you plan to fill out the numbers with similar old-school figures, or are cheaper alternatives likely?

These miniatures are for playing. I usually cut off the bar between the feet to connect the miniature with pins to the base. I wouldn't do that as a collector. I will fill out the numbers with similar old school miniatures.

Beside the "official" AHQ miniatures I will use the following miniatures:

Zombies: Handful '85-'89 Citadel lead + HQ minis
Skeletons: Few '85-'89 Citadel lead + old plastic Skeletons + HQ minis
Skaven Warriors: Handful '85-'89 Citadel lead + Fantasy Regiments miniatures (I don't like the AHQ Skaven)
Chaos: Some '85-'89 Citadel lead Champions/Warriors/Thugs/Beastmen + old 4th Ed. plastic Warriors/Beastmen + HQ minis
Orcs: Many '85-'89 Citadel lead + Fantasy Regiments miniatures + HQ minis

Today I've made a mould for my bases and a few Oldhammer-shields. Unfortunately the hardener wasn't mixed very well: some parts of the mould haven't dried, yet. Moreover I'am remastering the offical rules and magazine articles as basis for my german translation project. Although a german translation of AHQ exist, there are some significant differences. My aim is a 1:1 translation concerning the contents.

By researching the Citadel ID's, I found out by accident, that I already own one of the characters of "The Dark beneath the World": Aldred Fellblade. Although the miniature and especially the sword doesn't really mirroring the description. I wonder if there are miniatures for Johan Zauberlich and Jules Gasgoigne, too.

Here a few shots of a first plaster prototype base. The "real" bases will be made of resin. I'm not satisfied with the color, yet. The base coat is Reaper Dark Skin, followed by 50/50 Leather Brown/Marigold Yellow. The highlights are 30/30/30 Leather Brown/Marigold/Sun Yellow. I finally applied a coat of GW Gryphonne Sepia.
