Help with bringing back dead heroes?

I need help: I'm not too happy with how I bring back my heroes. I mean it works, but it could be a million times better. You see, when a hero dies, a grave stone is put where they died. An Allie could then pay 500-1000 coins (I change it up as they get stronger) plus a skull of a killed monster times the number of times they died by 1. (For example: If you died 2 times, your friend would have to pay 500-1000 coins depending on your strength, and kill an amount of monsters due to the number of times you've died times 1.) This is all returned to the gravestone, and the hero is reborn. They loose all of their money, though.
Is this a good idea? Or does anyone have a better idea?

For us, when the hero is finally dead, and unable to be helped, they're DEAD - start with a new one.

I always have them begin with new characters. If the dead hero's equipment was saved by a fellow, then the new character can use the same equipment (should the fellow choose to give it up, or some of it). I find if they get attached to their characters, the mortality of them helps them strategise more.

I agree. When they're dead they're dead.
Though I wouldn't object to a ressurection spell of some kind.

We treat the healing potion as that - whatever level your char is, that's the number of turns your friends have to get to you. Then they pour the *magic* healing potion on you (I mean, really - there's no actual drink we know of that instantly heals anything is there? Unless you mean booz...) and your body heals, returning your brain to functionality (ignore the damage done by more than 5 minutes of no oxygen) and recalling your "soul" right the hell back to your body.
I was in a situation where I had 4 body points, got hit with 6 damage, drunk a +6 potion as I was collapsing into death with -2, and came back to life with 4 body points. But the next hit to take me to 0 would drop me - cannot drink 2 health potions on the same turn! And anything that takes you to negative numbers KILLS you, instantly - your friends cannot help you then.
So if I had then been hit with FIVE damage on the same turn, I would need a new char. Four dmg I could survive if a friend gets to me, but not on the same turn. Also the monsters leave you there to die when you drop at ZERO bp; they don't keep hitting you to destroy you. Though we might have a nasty ass boss do that; it hasn't come up yet. Good way to deal with a player that's becoming waaaaay too powerful...

Wow, I really like this idea! Though I don't play with levels...
Anyway, the thing is my heroes are not to fond of leaving their character to rot and die. Though if it's fair, I'll just make them create new characters.

This is pretty much what the Artifact: Elixir of Life is for. But it's rare. I think there are only two, or three in all of the official Quests from the GS to FH.

Ah, I see it! Maybe they can buy Rebirth Herbs from the shop? I don't know...

Man a few of us got ourselves killed-ish tonite!
Twice I got hit so bad that I collapsed at zero health - had to be saved by someone else once!
Ran out of medium health potions too!
The rogue got reduced to zero also and had to drink a health potion of her own - but it didn't save her - she was 2 players away from permanently DEAD - and got saved!
Good job.
She's the only female that will play that game with us. And a dam good looking one, too.

Haha. My girlfriend plays (Im such a blessed man...) and she always plays as the halfling. The only thing she really does is heal us and get into trouble. But yet she has survived through everything! We are currently on Kellar's Keep, and she has survived EVERYTHING. I want to try your idea later this week.
