Stealing

Postby Redav » April 11th, 2015, 10:31 pm

I've been thinking about whether it's possible to incorporate theft into the game to try knock down some overpowered heroes. Initially I thought about making it an ability for skaven (which I don't know much about, yet) as they seem like sneaky monsters so it would have been an option as an action. Then I was thinking that surely any visible monsters probably only care about killing heroes so maybe apply it to wandering monsters instead? I thought the mechanic might be;

When a wandering monster card is drawn, the EWP rolls a combat dice giving the following options;
- skull = the wandering monster attacks
- white shield = the EWP has a choice of attacking with the wandering monster or stealing with the hero turning to find a skaven (giving the hero a chance to get the stolen property back)
- black shield = the EWP has a choice of attacking with the wandering monster or stealing without the hero noticing

The EWP has a choice of stealing;
- gold coins with the amount stolen the value of 10 x the sum of two red dice
- items which are drawn at random from their cards. My (unplaytested) house rules separate carried items from equipped items so you could only steal a carried item

Thoughts?

The Ice Gremlins from the Frozen Horror have a stealing ability. You may want to check it out for additional ideas, or reference.

Ah, okay. I should probably read all the expansions and see what other rules are out there :)

That rule was basically what I'd come up with for skaven and goblins before changing it to the wandering monster.

The wandering monster is already a pain in the @ss. Don’t make it worse.

Ice gremlins are enough for stealing your items and there is also a treasure room that you can get them back.

But about heroes, a thief is a good idea. With the character stats of the elf without the spells and with disarm trap (of the dwarf)+ steal ability. Steal ability should be a normal attack but if you hit you don’t do damage but you take a treasure card. If you have extra treasure cards you can build a separate deck without wandering monsters, traps, and very valuable items (only one potion, etc), or you can draw treasure cards from your main deck and when you find wandering monsters etc you can count them as nothing, and put them back.
